Apenas hay estudios con referencia a la producción de cal. No pretendemos abarcar toda esta parcela de investigación, tan solo fomentarla, mostrando tres ejemplos, algunos ya publicados, donde hemos detectado esta ocupación artesanal. También queremos presentar la huella arqueológica que deja esta labor y analizar tipológica y funcionalmente los distintos tipos de estructuras identificados. El análisis incluye las áreas de captación de materias primas y pretendemos, finalmente, establecer una finalidad del material procesado.

El espacio funerario del yacimiento Camino de Santa Juana en Cubas de la Sagra, se compon... more RESUMEN El espacio funerario del yacimiento Camino de Santa Juana en Cubas de la Sagra, se compone de dos necrópolis bien diferenciadas, datadas entre fi nales del s. IV y el primer cuarto del s. V d C., la primera de ellas de tipo familiar, y la segunda comunitaria. Ambas necrópolis han proporcionado un elevado número de sepulturas con ajuares vítreos y cerámicos, siendo estos últimos los más numerosos y ofreciendo una gran variedad formal y tipológica, muestra de la producción del área artesanal al que está asociada, así como novedades en cuanto al estudio morfológico cronológico de algunas de estas producciones. La actividad alfarera en época bajoimperial y durante todo el periodo tardoantiguo arroja un grav... more La actividad alfarera en época bajoimperial y durante todo el periodo tardoantiguo arroja un grave déficit de conocimientos, especialmente en el interior peninsular. A diferencia de los centros productores y los hornos de época altoimperial, mejor conocidos en nuestra comunidad: Villamanta, Torrejón de Velasco, Barajas, Alcalá de Henares, etc., el mundo tardío es un completo desconocido. Las grandes obras de infraestructura emprendidas en los últimos años en la comunidad de Madrid, unidas a una intensa actividad urbanística, han sacado a la luz un amplio número de centros productivos de diversa entidad y un gran conjunto de hornos que nos brindan la oportunidad de empezar a conocer mejor el vasto periodo de la Antigüedad tardía. Aquí reunimos un grupo importante de estas estructuras, descubiertas entre los ríos Jarama y Guadarrama, al sur de la región madrileña, en ocasiones agrupadas en verdaderos centros alfareros dotados de complejas instalaciones, al menos durante el Bajo Imperio. Situación de los centros productores recogidos en esta comunicación. Los ejemplos que vamos conociendo de hornos datables durante los siglos VI y VII d.C. muestran una sorprendente fidelidad a ciertos patrones constructivos de la época romana, como es el uso de plantas de tipo cuadrangular con sistemas de sustentación lateral de la parrilla, al tiempo que se reeditan soluciones del pasado que parecían olvidadas como las parrillas macizas de gran espesor o los soportes mediante pilar central hueco, ofreciendo además una gran diversidad formal y técnica, alejada, no obstante, de la sofisticación y grandiosidad altoimperiales. Las producciones detectadas están con frecuencia relacionadas con la fabricación de materiales de construcción, sin embargo en el centro de producción de Cubas de la Sagra, se han registrado indicios de la existencia de un taller de TSHT. La aparición de ciertas novedades estructurales en hornos datados entre los siglos IV y V d.C., como el murete de soporte a eje en la pared del fondo del horno, nos hacen sospechar la existencia de una potente actividad alfarera en el centro peninsular que aporta, probablemente durante el siglo IV, soluciones inéditas en la construcción de estructuras de cocción, que parecen perdurar al menos hasta las primeras décadas del siglo V d.C.
