The period under investigation (1960–1969) is the most important stage in her career as a hospital chaplain and educator. The research methods are the genetic method of historical research and content analysis, which is used in the study of the literary production of Kilpeläinen. Kilpeläinen acquired her most important resources for pastoral care, its narration and its teaching from Carl Rogers (1902–1987) who, until the mid1960s, was the most influential psychotherapist in the field of Christian pastoral care and the most renowned in the United States. Kilpeläinen had the clinical therapy training based on the Rogers method at The St Luke’s Hospital.
