They were in their solid state, being characterized by elevated melting points and high reaction yields. The new compounds purity was verified by a gas chromatograph coupled with a gas spectrometer and it was confirmed by the appearance of a single peak. Elemental analysis and spectral analysis (UV-Vis, FTIR and H-NMR) confirmed the structural formulas deduced from those equations of the synthesis chemical reactions. The compounds presented properties of liquid crystals, fact demonstrated by the presence of a solid phase polymorphism during the heating process, and of a nematic phase during cooling, followed by a smectic A phase.

The health benefits of this plant have been appreciated in traditional European medicine since ancient times. Various studies have investigated the remarkable phytotherapeutic properties of horseradish and its aromatic profile. However, relatively few studies have been conducted on Romanian horseradish, and they mainly refer to the ethnomedicinal or dietary uses of the plant. This study reports the first complete low-molecular-weight metabolite profile of Romanian wild-grown horseradish. A total of ninety metabolites were identified in mass spectra (MS)-positive mode from nine secondary metabolite categories (glucosilates, fatty acids, isothiocyanates, amino acids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, terpenoids, coumarins, and miscellaneous). In addition, the biological activity of each class of phytoconstituents was discussed. Furthermore, the development of a simple target phyto-carrier system that collecti...

Identifying the victims of accidents or attacks sometimes requires the analysis of their dentures. In this paper, X-ray spectrometry was used as a method to determine the chemical composition of a dental material. In this case, it was established that it was a dental alloy (Cr-Ni-Mo) with a percentage composition of 23.58% Cr, 64.32% Ni and 10.82% Mo.

Depending on growing region, there are large differences in the uptake and concentrations of those in plant tissues. In this research, we determined the concentrations of Zn, Cr, Cd, Pb, Cu and Fe in three medicinal plants: Lonicera tatarica (flowers and fruits), Viburnum opulus (bark and fruits) and Sambucus ebulus (leaves, stems and fruits). The content of the heavy metals can be considered in normal limits, even for Pb2+ and Cr3+, markers for soil and air pollution. High levels of Fe2+/3+ have been determined in all samples. The study has been realized using GF-AAS and microwave digestion.

The aim of this study was to achieve a phytochemical study to explain the healing properties of Sambucus ebulus using modern analytical techniques (GC-MS, HPLC) in order to determine certain compounds with biological activity of the Sambucus ebulus species. Among the secondary metabolites identified in Sambucus ebulus exercising a wide range of biological activities on living organisms can be listed: quinic acid, 6-methyl-2-methoxy pyrazine, 2-methoxy-6-(2propyl)-phenol. By HPLC was succeeded the separation of anthocyanins and two terpenoids: α and β amyrin.

However, studies performed on this species, are extremely limited. The aim of this work was to identify and accurately quantify three polyphenols known for their beneficial effects on human health of Scilla bifolia bulbs and herba. Analyses were performed by HPLC-MS. The proposed method is selective, precise and has a high accuracy.

In terms of interspecific variability, the GC-MS analyses indicated that the qualitative content of the ether extracts is not similar for these species. Among the identified compounds via GC-MS, the ones that have pharmaceutical importance include several classes of secondary metabolites: polyphenols, sterols and fatty acids. Other compounds identified include various alkanes (in Sambucus ebulus species), organic acids, alcohols, aldehydes or ethers. LC-MS analysis of ultrasonicated tinctures revealed the presence of polyphenols with outstanding curative properties (antioxidant, antibacterial and antineoplazic) even at extremely low concentrations.

The obtained hMCs, with various ratios (Φ) of SO and μF, are used as dielectric materials for manufacturing electrical devices. The equivalent electrical capacitance and resistance are investigated in the presence of an external magnetic field, with flux density B. Based on the recorded data, we obtain the variation of the relative dielectric constant (ϵr′), and electrical conductivity (σ), with Φ, and B. We show that, by increasing Φ, the distance between CI magnetic dipoles increases, and this leads to significant changes in the behaviour of ϵr′ and σ in a magnetic field. The results are explained by developing a theoretical model that is based on the dipolar approximation. They indicate that the obtained hMCs can be u...

In this paper, a plasma generation process is used for spraying solid metal (carbon steel wire or rod). By modifying the electric current intensity, materials displacement speed in plasma and the debit of technical argon, iron nano-microparticles are obtained in the form of filled and/or porous microspheres, nano-microtubes and microparticles. They consist of a central core from which tentacles in the form of microtubes emerge. We show the manufacturing process and the formation mechanisms of these particles by using argon plasma. We present and discuss the obtained results.

Of the tested methods, the most effective was method 3 (mineralisation with nitric acid in a microwave oven), the other methods of sample digestion leading to incomplete mineralization of the samples and implicitly to the incomplete transfer of the analytes into solution, reflecting the slightly different contents in metal cations we obtained.

Two parallel copper electrodes are attached to the hMRE and the capacitance C is measured as a function of time t, for fixed values of magnetic flux density B. We show that C is stable in time and is sensibly influenced by B, while the relative dielectric permittivity increases up to two orders of magnitude when B reaches 340 mT. We explain the physical mechanism which leads to the observed magnetodielectric effects. The obtained results can be used for various biomedical applications such as in fabrication of active biomagnetic membranes used in dental implantology.
