I am an Italian Archaeologist. I got my PhD on the Iron Age pottery from Mishrifeh (Syria) at the inter-university PhD course of the University of Ca' Foscari Venezia, University of Udine and University of Trieste (Italy). I am specialized in Near Eastern Archaeology, especially in Late Bronze and Iron Ages. My academic studies included Italian and European Prehistory-Protohistory, Human Paleontology and Museology. I've worked in several missions in Italy (Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Tuscany, Sicily) and I am member since 2015 of the LoNAP (Land of Nineveh Archaeological Project) team in Iraqi Kurdistan and since 2018 of the NoLeP (Northern Lebanon Project) team in Lebanon.
ENG The current work aims to study the phoenician sites settled between the 8th and the mid 6th century B.C. in the Sulcis-Iglesiente region (south-western Sardinia), to analyse the diverse settlement strategies for land occupation. After a brief archaeological description of the contemplated sites, their various functions are examinated in detail: two different ways of settlement pattern are thus distinguishable. The first one can be identified in the heart of the Sulcis region: there, it can be recognized a central place (Sulky) connected to a network of intermediate centers which controlled directly the territory through minor sites. In this manner, the systematic exploitation of all the resources of both sea and land was possible. The second way can be found in marginal areas of the Sulcis region or immediately outside of it, that is the Nora and Bithia lands: there, also because of connections difficulties, a strong maritime vocation and an almost absent hinterland occupation are observed.
