Maria Paola Guidobaldi
Archeologa di origini abruzzesi, laureata in Lettere Classiche con orientamento archeologico presso l’Università degli Studi di Perugia (1984: Primo Relatore il Prof. Filippo Coarelli; Secondo Relatore il Prof. Mario Torelli), ove ha conseguito anche il Dottorato di ricerca in Archeologia greca e romana (1995: Tutor il Prof. Mario Torelli), è anche abilitata all’insegnamento universitario come Professore Associato di Archeologia (10 A1).
Funzionaria Archeologa del Ministero della Cultura, entrata come vincitrice di concorso pubblico nel 1999 nella Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, è stata Direttrice degli Scavi di Ercolano dal 2000 al 2015, assumendo la responsabilità del complesso delle attività di ricerca, tutela, conservazione e valorizzazione riguardanti sia gli Scavi di Ercolano, dichiarati nel 1997 Patrimonio dell’Umanità, sia il territorio dei Comuni di Ercolano, Torre del Greco, Portici, S. Giorgio a Cremano, Pollena Trocchia, S. Sebastiano al Vesuvio.
Ha coordinato dal 2001 al 2015 l’Herculaneum Conservation Project, un’innovativa forma di cooperazione pubblico-privata per la salvaguardia degli Scavi di Ercolano, indicata come best practice dalla Direttrice Generale Unesco del 2012, Irina Bokova, maturando una notevole e variegata esperienza nel campo della tutela, della conservazione, della gestione e della valorizzazione di un parco archeologico complesso.
Come Direttrice dell’Ufficio Editoria della Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei ha organizzato e curato 2 Convegni internazionali (2002 e 2007) sulle nuove ricerche condotte da Istituzioni universitarie e gruppi di ricerca internazionali nei siti archeologici vesuviani e ha curato, assumendo anche la responsabilità degli appalti del servizio editoriale e il coordinamento del processo redazionale, la pubblicazione e distribuzione di 33 volumi della rinnovata collana di “Studi della Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei”, che ha accolto monografie, miscellanee, cataloghi di materiali e gli atti dei suddetti convegni.
Nell’ambito del Polo Museale del Lazio, istituito nel 2015, ha diretto il Museo Nazionale Archeologico Cerite di Cerveteri (2015-2018) e il Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia (2015-2016), divenuto in seguito museo autonomo e al cui interno riveste attualmente i ruoli di Conservatrice delle Collezioni museali (Conservatore Capo); di Curatrice delle sezioni Cerveteri, Collezione Castellani e Kircheriana; di Responsabile dell’Ufficio Mostre, delle Relazioni Sindacali e dei Servizi di Accoglienza e Vigilanza.
Ha curato: (con P.G. Guzzo e M. Borriello) la mostra "Ercolano. Tre secoli di scoperte" (Napoli MANN 2008); (con Grete Stefani e Adele Lagi) la sezione “Pompei e l’area vesuviana” nell’ambito della "Mostra Nutrire l’Impero. Storie di alimentazione da Roma e Pompei" (Roma, Ara Pacis, 2015); (con G. Tagliamonte) la mostra "Etruschifano. Mario Schifano a Villa Giulia, un ritorno" (Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia, 2018); "Felice Barnabei. Gocce di Memorie private" (Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia, 9 settembre-10 ottobre 2021); "BASTABUSTE", personale di Oreste Baldini (16 ottobre 2021-5 marzo 2022, Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia); (con Valentino Nizzo e Antonietta Simonelli) la mostra per il centenario della morte di Felice Barnabei: "Centum deinde centum. Alle radici dell'archeologia nazionale" (Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia, 22 marzo-30 agosto 2023).
La sua produzione scientifica (oltre 120 pubblicazioni) è dedicata prevalentemente all’archeologia vesuviana, con particolare riguardo all’antica Ercolano e alla Villa dei Papiri, di cui ha progettato, diretto e pubblicato gli scavi più recenti (2007-2009), ma comprende anche studi sulla romanizzazione dell’Italia, sull’archeologia dell’Italia preromana medio-adriatica, sulle politiche di gestione e valorizzazione del patrimonio archeologico, sulla storia del collezionismo.
Fra le sue pubblicazioni monografiche: Musica e danza nel mondo romano (1992); La romanizzazione dell’ager Praetutianus-secoli III-I a.C. (1995); Pavimenti e mosaici nella villa dei Misteri di Pompei (con C. Cicirelli, 2000); I materiali votivi della Grotta del Colle di Rapino (2002); L’Italia antica: culture e forme del popolamento (con F. Pesando, L. Cerchiai, P.G. Guzzo, 2005); Gli Ozi di Ercole. Residenze di lusso a Pompei ed Ercolano (con F. Pesando, 2006); Ercolano. Guida agli scavi (Electa Napoli 2006); Ercolano. Colori da una città sepolta (con D. Esposito, 2012); Guida Archeologica Laterza di Pompei, Oplontis, Ercolano e Stabiae (con F. Pesando, 2006 e 2018, seconda edizione aggiornata e ampliata).
Per le Case Editrici Longanesi e Laterza ha tradotto dal francese molte opere di archeologia e di storia antica.
