The crisis has its roots in the unequal colonial division of the country, after the First World War. This partition had created a francophone majority and an anglophone minority, an aspect which marked both the colonial and post-colonial period. Thus, the anglophone crisis is illustrated as the symbol of the marginalization of the anglophone minority, which has remained passive in relation to the francophone majority. In this regard, the process of marginalization has been ineluctably accentuated by the relation of consent to domination. The subordination of the anglophone minority was visible in a myriad of situations, such as the one at the 1961 Foumban constitutional conference, through which there was established the federal structure of the state, which eventually proved to be a false construction. Moreover, after the unitary state was introduced in 1972, the anglophones had to tackle the feeling of being recolonised in their own country inasmuch as the process of francophonisation enhanced in a considerable manner. Regarding the political consequences of the anglophone conflict, there is illustrated the fact that the crisis has definitely raised the level of consciousness of the Cameroonian population over the plethora of problems of the neo-patrimonial system. After 2016, the trust of the citizens in the institutions and regime of the country significantly decreased, suggesting the disfunctional democracy from Cameroon. The crisis is supported by radical groups, which plan to attain the independence of the anglophone territory and the creation of the Ambazonian state. Although the region is facing escalating violence, there have not been taken major and complex solutions for preventing the development of the conflict.

Moreover, the Anglophone crisis is presented as a situation of a minority's marginalization and discrimination, highlighting the socalled francophonisation of the Anglophone system and the issue of the state's mismanagement of cultural diversity. Another interpretation tacked by the article is that the current crisis represents the direct consequence of the authoritarian style of leadership and of the dysfunctional democracy in the country. There are also illustrated the myriad of negative political, social and economic consequences of the crisis, by presenting the relation between the threatened political and economic stability of the country and the increased state authority and violence.
