However, most of the studies about the civil war and its implications at the time have indicated an internal conflict. The emergence of armed Islamists alongside the US policies of counterterrorism after 9/11 has changed the nature and direction of the Somali conflict. External ef forts aimed to reduce armed Islamists have backfired and benefited for their political gains. Therefore, this article aims to reflect upon the birth of Islamist groups in Somalia by paying much attention to the emergence of jihadi Islamism and their role in the transformation of Somali conflict; from civil among clans to war on terror. Furthermore, sheds light that regional and international interventions have impacted negatively on the ongoing efforts of state and peacebuilding but also urges the demilitarizat...

In the search for novel treatment options for estrogen-dependent diseases (EDD) and in order to explore estrogenic signaling pathways, a large number of steroidal and nonsteroidal inhibitors of these enzymes has been described in the literature. The present review gives a survey on the development of inhibitor classes as well as the structural formulas and biological properties of their most interesting representatives. In addition, rationally designed dual inhibitors of both 17β-HSD1 and steroid sulfatase (STS) as well as the first inhibitors of 17β-HSD14 are covered.

The objective functional contains a model-free shape tracking term to constrain the active curve in a frame to have a shape which approximates as closely as possible the shape of the active curve in the preceding frame. It complements a kernel photometric tracking term which constrains the active curve in a frame to enclose an intensity profile that matches as closely as possible the profile within the curve in the preceding frame. This data term is in kernel form so as to forgo image modeling. The method, which is exclusively driven by the curve/level set evolution equations derived from the objective functional Euler-Lagrange conditions, can track several objects independently. Experimental validation includes examples with infrared imaging, occlusion, clutter, and articulated motion.

It is considered a bridge technique between conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and NOTES. We are presenting our initial experiences in SILC (single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy). Seventeen patients underwent SILC (11 women and 6 men) with an average age of 43 years. Mean BMI score was 29,4 kg/m2. The mean operative time was 93,5 minutes. There were conversions to conventional LC in two cases (11,6%). Average pain score measured on visual-analogue scale (VAS) 8h after the operation was 2,00. All patients expressed satisfaction with achieved cosmetic effect. We conclude that SILC is safe and feasible procedure, with excellent cosmetic effect, but further prospective studies are required before SILC can be generally accepted.
