People are expected to wash their hands at offices, shopping centers, hospitals, and other public areas to prevent COVID-19 virus transmission. As the demand grows, there are more opportunities for people in local communities to produce hand soaps contributing to the high-quality hand soap needs fulfillment. The production method is effective, economically beneficial, and does not irritate the skin. Thus, hand soap production training (both online and offline), branding, and marketing were provided to achieve this objective. Several parties participated in the online activity, such as the Department of Chemistry's Chemical Physics Laboratory Employees, the Maxi Consulting Team, and the Head of HIPPI DIY--the event was also published in Majalah Kagama. The offline training was conducted in Ganjuran, Sleman, and Kasihan Bantul, as the midwives and women's groups participated. The brand...

Gerbosari village, one of the villages in the Samigaluh sub-district, is one of Indonesia's largest clove oil producers. Yet, the development is not significant enough as distillation technology is still considered minimal and less profitable. The problem revolving around clove oil production for small businesses is that the produced oil's quality is deficient. A notable amount of iron (Fe) can still be found in the oil, resulting in a relatively low selling price. Community service was suggested based on applying appropriate technology targeting the clove oil refining actors or industry on the Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSME) scale in Gerbosari, namely MSME Surya Wulan, to obtain export quality clove oil eligible to Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) or National Standards of Indonesia. This year's community ...

Women's Farmers Group (KWT) Nira Lestari became one of the groups engaged in the use of cocon... more Women's Farmers Group (KWT) Nira Lestari became one of the groups engaged in the use of coconuts. Products produced by KWT Nira Lestari include liquid sugar, ant sugar, VCO and liquid smoke. The processing of products on KWT is not fully optimal, the liquid smoke produced cannot be used as a food aroma such as the function of liquid smoke in general because the processed results of liquid smoke are still pitch black and contain carcinogen compounds. This activity aims to design a liquid smoke redefiment technology at KWT partner Nira Lestari. The methods used include a specific review of the needs and potential of partners, preparation of implementation, technology design, analysis of tool concept design, video creation of program implementation, creation of product application playbook, and evalusai with partners. The results achieved from this activity are in the form of a design of liquid smoke distillation technology, video and application usage manual. The design of this di...

Composite of Mn-doped titania-zirconia was synthesized by sol-gel method. Titanium(IV) isopropoxide was used as the precursor of TiO2, while zirconiapowder was used as another semiconductor. MnCl2∙4H2O was used as the source of dopant in this study. Various amounts of manganese were incorporated into TiO2-ZrO2 and calcination was performed at temperatures of 500, 700 and 900 °C. Synthesized composites were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), specular reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy (SR UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction method (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy equipped with X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDX). The results showed that Mn-doped TiO2-ZrO2 with the lowest bandgap (2.78 eV) was achieved with 5% of Mn dopant and calcined at 900 °C, while Mn-doped TiO2-ZrO2 with the highest bandgap (3.12 eV) was achiev...
The biodegradation and biodetoxification of batik industrial wastewater by laccase enzyme immobil... more The biodegradation and biodetoxification of batik industrial wastewater by laccase enzyme immobilised on light expanded clay aggregate (LECA) were investigated. Laccase from Trametes hirsuta EDN 082 was covalently immobilised by modifying the LECA surface using (3–aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane and glutaraldehyde. The enzymatic characterisation of LECA–laccase showed promising results with an enzyme loading of 6.67 U/g and an immobilisation yield of 66.7% at the initial laccase activity of 10 U/g LECA. LECA-laccase successfully degraded batik industrial wastewater containing indigosol dye up to 98.2%. In addition, the decolorisation extent was more than 95.4% after four cycles. The phytotoxicity assessment of Vigna radiata and the microbial toxicity of two pathogenic bacteria, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, showed biodetoxification of treated batik dye wastewater. The characterisation using 3D light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared for LECA–laccase confirmed that laccase was successfully immobilised on LECA, and the decolorisation achieved through the combination of adsorption and enzymatic degradation. This study offers an environmentally friendly, effective and affordable LECA–laccase as a method for batik dye wastewater treatment.
Potential energy curves (PECs) and energy profiles of atomic O attack on coronene as a model for ... more Potential energy curves (PECs) and energy profiles of atomic O attack on coronene as a model for graphene/graphitic surface and interstellar reaction surface have been computed at the unrestricted B3LYP/cc-pVDZ level of theory to elaborate on atomic O attack mechanism and chemisorption on coronene. The PECs were generated by scanning the O atom distance to the closest carbon atom on "top" and "bridge" positions in the coronene, while fully relaxed geometries in the triplet state were investigated to gain the energy profile. We found that the most favorable geometry as the final product was the chemically bound O on the "bridge" site in the singlet state with an interaction energy of –29.2 kcal/mol. We recommended a plausible mechanism of atomic O attack and chemisorption reaction on coronene or generally graphitic surface starting from the non-interacting O atom and coronene systems into the chemically bound O atom on coronene.
