The earliest one is found in a Ms of The Arabian Nights written by the Melchite Priest Dom Chavis in 1787. The linguistic features attested in this translation may be helpful for the proper understanding of the Christian Arabic documents of the milieu, especially of those in bad condition.

show the reversed order (except for ones and tens) like that in the languages in question. The cases of applying both orders to different eras within the same colophons are of special interest. This elucidated rather complicated system may be useful to restore scarcely readable dates on the written material in poor condition or even to correct some scribal errors.

Being a common feature of various Arabic texts in the 10th to the early 12th century, it happened to be utilized in the Egyptian Gospel Version of Coptic origin which gained great popularity after the Mongol invasion when many Arabic Gospel copies outside Egypt were destroyed, and obviously because of this it became a characteristic feature of various Christian Arabic texts up to the 19th century.
