It must be recognized that, while the formulas may be precise, the validity of the outputs are constrained by the quality of input data available and the assumptions required. Fertility projections present special problems because of the multiplicity of factors that can independently influence reproductive performance. The estimation of births averted by family planning programs is particularly tenuous. Population planners must be cognizant of all the dimensions of population change if effective programs are to be developed.

The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization (1990). These disciplines, which are adapted to developing country contexts, include personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. The Seminar ingrains these Disciplines and a range of leadership principles and analytical tools through interactive lectures, class exercises and presentations, and critical discussions. Small group work is facilitated with an original computer-assisted learning tool called STARGuide Strategic Thinking, Action and Reflection Guide. The STAR is used to represent the five leadership disciplines. The following five questions are used to explore these disciplines in depth. 1.How can I continuously improve myself to become more creativ...

Participants will be provided with examples and complementary activities to help hone their leadership skills to ensure they work effectively in an international health context. Of note, the 21st century will be the century of change - change driven by major forces globally and locally - political, social, economic, technological and environmental. These will profoundly affect the capabilities of households and communities to produce and maintain health and general well being. The challenge is to consider these forces as an opportunity for positive change rather than a threat to the status quo, participants will go through activities to understand this concept, and be able to incorporate it in a public health practice setting. To assist communities in more effectively and efficiently producing health in the presence of these rapidly changing forces...

The different rates of condom use with different partners imply the different influencing factors associated with partner types. The present study estimates the partner-specific condom use rates among Chinese adults and investigates the influencing factors from a multi-perspective: individual, partnership and socio-cultural environment. Research and program implications are discussed upon the findings. The study used data from the Chinese Health and Family Planning Survey, a nationally representative probability sample of the adult population aged 20-64 in China mainland. The study is guided by both the social ecological theory and the gender and power theory in formulating the research hypotheses and selecting variables. Hierarchical model is applied to deal with the examination on multilevel factors. The pr...
