The flood incident of Garang watershed on 6 and 24 February 2021 inundated some of Semarang City.... more The flood incident of Garang watershed on 6 and 24 February 2021 inundated some of Semarang City. Total area of inundated area is about 47% of Semarang City or 176 km2. A research was conducted to estimate the contribution of sub-watersheds in flood peak and flood volume, and to analyze the causes of the flooding and its solutions. The flood peak discharge was estimated using Rational method and flood volume using Curve Number (CN) method. Geographic Information Syatem (GIS) is used for calculating Runoff coefficient and Curve Number. Overlay of landcover map, slope map, and soil map produce runoff coefficient map while the CN value was obtained from over lapping land cover maps, soil hydrology group, application of soil and water conservation techniques, hydrological conditions, and antecedent soil moisture content in each sub watershed. Garang watershed consists of 4 sub watersheds namely Garang upland, Kreyo, Kripik, and Garang lowland with area of 85.33; 65.36; 38.83; and 23.20 ...

The availability and quality of water resources are not only to support human health and well-bei... more The availability and quality of water resources are not only to support human health and well-being, but also are providing the functioning of essential ecosystems, including rivers, wetlands, lakes and coastal ecosystems. The contamination of the aquatic ecosystem certainly carries a substantial loss, not only for the environment but also for human beings who use the goods and services of the environment. Water related problems often cannot be managed and overcome completely because of sectoral approach, monodisciplinary and unintegrated. Trans disciplinary science dealing with the interaction of hydrological processes and the dynamics of biology and/or ecology in various spatial, temporal conditions and human life practices around its environment is called ecohydrology. The ecohydrology concept is agreed to solve water related problems in the world. It is included in one of UNESCO IHP VIII themes to support SDGs achievement. This article aims to demonstrate the concept of ecohydro...

Change in the value of risk f (h, A, t, θ) was hypothesized to be sensitive to climate change and other environmental factors that exist at a river basin area. Therefore, it is quite important to control the flood disaster risk as a part of adaptation programs to the climate change impacts and to deal with the increasing pressure due to anthropogenic activities. Additionally, to support the action plan and to increase the understanding and awareness related to the flood disaster mitigation, spatial information on flood risk which having high resolution and precision is required. They allow scientists to further synthesize and better conclude processes in aquatic ecosystems. These sensors produce high-frequency data that provide information on a fine temporal scale, even near real-time. The massive quantities of the streamed data, however, create challenges for scientists to grasp the concrete information. Filtering data quality, on the other hand, is another problem scientists might have encountered as sensor accuracy and precision may drift along the line. Hence, quality assurance and quality control might be quite labouring owing to the size of datasets to handle. This paper proposed a semi-mechanistic algorithm to improved false water temperature data. Using “theoretical” thermal stratification as a reference, this algorithm fixed sensors error readings. A 5-month dataset of water temperature profiles o...

High pressure on these natural resources, mostly related to anthropogenic activities and climate change, tend to increase environmental degradation and water ecosystem deterioration. Various possible efforts need to be considered in order to overcome water related problems in the future. Ecohydrology application will be a useful tool in regulating water circulation, eroded soil transportation, water quality, quantity and availability, and floods and drought risk. Implementation of ecohydrological concept at demonstration site scale in a tributary of the Saguling reservoir catchment, the upper Citarum watershed, Indonesia aims to facilitate different part of stakeholders to have best practices tools and field experiences in dealing with daily water ecosystem and environmental challenges. This study showed a very high erosion at internal demonstration site area, closely related to increase of river water turbidity. Meanwhile, developed modelling system may predict water and sediment yields, soil erosion and deposition sources in good performance, either within the demonstration site or the entire area of upper Citarum watershed. Phytoremediation ponds constructed in the demosite demonstrated their ability to improve water quality through turbidity reduction up to 64%, 76%, 68%, 92%, and 88%, for Lemna, Landoltia, Salvinia, Pistia, and Eichhornia respectively. Understanding and taking into account community characteristics will greatly assist ecohydrology concept implementation around ecohydrology demonstration site in Saguling catchment area.

The reservoir irrigate rice fields by 90,000 ha, supply raw water for clean water by approximately 3,500 l/sec, and produce electricity by 110 MW. Yet, the condition of the Cimanuk watershed is reported in a critical situation. It was characterized by high soil erosion and high fluctuations in river discharge. This study aims to evaluate the sedimentation and river flows that entering the Jatigede Reservoir. The rainfall-runoff simulation determined by SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tools) on Jatigede Reservoir is based on existing land use. According to SWAT, it showed the possibility of current land use on annual crop and garden land which is carried out some conservative measurements, such as terrace, grass strip, and ditch and also building area that constructed an infiltration well would reduce the sediment yield from around 9.05 to 5.96 million tons per year. Not only that, but also runoff will decline from 99.7 t...
