Papaya plants, including its fruits, barks, leaves, roots, and even their wastes (seeds and peels), produce (bio)active compound. This compound can be defined as a small molecule that inhibits explicitly, stimulates or otherwise alters the production or activity of a target. Many research has been reported that each part of papaya carries various phytochemicals and nutritional values such as minerals, flavonoids, alkaloids, carotenoids and even enzyme called papain that can be extracted from leaves, fruits and peels that exhibits antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticarcinogenic properties. This paper will discuss further on the active compound properties from different parts of papaya plant using both conventional and non-conventional method. The best method for papaya peels and leaves are solvent extraction, while papaya pulp is microwave assisted extraction and papaya seed is ultrasound assisted extraction method based on the previous researches. It can be concluded that papaya plants have completely different types of suitable method for each part due to the nature of the pulps, peels, seeds and leaves.
