Three experiments tested the generality of Clayton’s (1964) model for describing and predicting t... more Three experiments tested the generality of Clayton’s (1964) model for describing and predicting the rate of acquiring discrimination between rewards. With massed training, (Experiments I and II), the data could be adequately described by the model. However, when trials were spaced (Experiment III), trapping occurred; and results were inconsistent with the assumptions underlying the model.
