For exporting companies, transportation and loading are two crucial activities in order to accomplish its objectives, bringing the final product from the production places to the consumption locations. The present document considers the design of a logistics network focused in the reduction of exportation costs for tiles that involve a craft production. These tiles contain selected high quality aggregates from the nature. This network is developed from Juanchito, Valle del Cauca, Colombia to Florida, as its final destination. This design was developed by dividing the problem into two parts. In the first part, the load problem was approached, suiting different types of packaging inside a contender, aiming to minimize the used space. The second part is the problem of transportation with mode selection, looking for minimizing logistics cost of transportation taking in account delivery times and costs associated to the exportation process. In this way, it is possible to make Casevecchia able to compete in the Florida market

In the absence of spectrophotometry, which is a gold standard for measuring G6PD activity, G6PD genotyping is one of the alternatives to establish a database and distribution map of G6PD enzyme deficiency in Mauritania, which has become a new epicenter of P. vivax malaria in West Africa. The aim of our study was to assess the performance of multiplex allele-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (African-type Diaplex C™ G6PD kit) against PCR–restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequencing. Of 146 mutations associated with G6PD A− genotypes in 177 blood samples from Mauritanian patients, all but two samples were identified correctly using multiplex allele-specific PCR (100% sensitivity and 99% specificity; “almost perfect agreement” between allele-specific ...

Three intertwined quorum sensing systems control virulence of P. aeruginosa, with the rhl circuit playing the leading role in late and chronic infections. The majority of traits controlled by rhl transcription factor RhlR depend on PqsE, a dispensable thioesterase in Pseudomonas Quinolone Signal (PQS) biosynthesis4 that interferes with RhlR through an enigmatic mechanism likely involving direct interaction of both proteins. Here we show that PqsE and RhlR form a weakly interacting, probably transient 2:2 protein complex that, together with the RhlR agonist N-butanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (C4-HSL), stabilizes RhlR to a soluble form, thereby rendering the otherwise unstable transcription factor active. By using a PqsE-RhlR fusion protein first, we determined a crystal structure of the complex that allows us to identify res...

The algorithm is based on the multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) technique. This algorithm is implemented by using the free PX4 software for the Pixhawk2 controller. The behavior of the UAV is simulated given its physical characteristics by means of a non-linear model and a search of the controller parameters. This latter is based on a proportional (P) position controller in cascade with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) speed controller of its height and each one of its Euler angles. To perform this search, the PID gains Kp1, Kp2, Ki and Kd of each of the degrees of freedom are used to define vectors considered particle positions by the MOPSO algorithm, which moves them through a search space to find sets of optimum values according to Pareto, or the Pareto Front. The search is carried out based exclusively on Pareto dominance concepts, comparing parameters of step responses (overshoot, rise time, root-mean-square error) of each of the degrees of freedom. In order to show the efficiency of the proposal, simulation results are provided by using the calibration methodology obtaining good results.

Cases’ detection in vertebrate hosts can be complemented by entomological surveillance, but this method is not adapted to low infection rates in mosquito populations that typically occur in low or non-endemic areas. We identified West Nile Virus circulation in Camargue, a wetland area in South of France, using a cost effective innovative xenomonitoring method based on the molecular detection of virus in excreta from trapped mosquitoes. We also succeeded at identifying the mosquito community diversity dynamic on several sampling sites, together with the vertebrate hosts on which they fed prior to be captured using amplicon-based metagenomic on mosquito excreta without processing any mosquito. Mosquito excreta-based virus surveillance can be considere...

The simplicity, low invasive and possibility of self-collection of saliva imposed this specimen as a relevant alternative for SARS-CoV-2 detection. However, the discrepancy of saliva test results compared to NPSs made of its use controversial. Here, we proposed to assess Salivettes, as a standardized saliva collection device, and to compare SARS-CoV-2 positivity on paired NPS and saliva specimens. Methods: A total of 303 individuals randomly selected among those investigated for SARS-CoV-2 were enrolled, including 30 (9.9%) patients previously positively tested using NPS (follow-up group), 90 (29.7%) mildly symptomatic and 183 (60.4%) asymptomatic. Results: The RT-qPCR revealed a positive rate of 11.6% (n=35) and 17.2% (n=52) for NPSs and saliva samples, respectively. The sensitivity...

Unlike the situation in Asia where resistance to ACT has been reported, artemisinin resistance has not yet emerged in Africa. However, some rare failures with ACT or patients continuing to be parasitaemic on day 3 after ACT treatment have been reported in Africa or in travellers returning from Africa. Three mutations (G50E, R100K, and E107V) in the pfcoronin gene could be responsible for artemisinin resistance in Africa. Methods: The aims of this study were first to determine the prevalence of mutations in the pfcoronin gene in African P. falciparum isolates by Sanger sequencing, by targeting the 874 samples collected from patients hospitalised in France after returning from endemic areas in Africa between 2018 and 2019, and secondly to evaluate their association with in vitro reduced susceptibility to standard quinoline antimalarial drugs, including chloroquine, quinin...
