En 1912, alors que, pour la premiere fois, une de ses pieces est representee, il fait la connaissance de Darius Milhaud, âge d'a peine vingt ans ; c'est le debut d'une fructueuse collaboration marquee par le travail sur l'Orestie d’Eschyle (1913-1924), que Claudel a traduite, la musique de scene de Protee (1913-1919), et le ballet L'homme et son desir (1917). Pourtant, il faut attendre 1927 pour que le dramaturge se lance ve��ritablement dans l'experimentation de multiples formes de rencontres entre le drame et la musique, ce que nous avons appele la "musique scenique". Claire Croiza (1882-1946), cantatrice celebre et recitante remarquable, a eu des liens privilegie... more Claire Croiza (1882-1946), cantatrice celebre et recitante remarquable, a eu des liens privilegies avec certains poetes, dont Paul Valery et Paul Claudel. Interprete par excellence des Choephores de Milhaud, elle a regulierement frequente Claudel a l’occasion de conferences ou de concerts. Les lettres qu’il lui a adressees permettent de suivre cette relation qui a culmine dans l’organisation en 1939 d’un recital autour de Verlaine et Claudel, partage avec Louise Vetch pour l’interpretation.

Chaque mot compte pour dire le hors-scène et pour le mettre en jeu. De façon radicale, l’imaginaire du hors-scène, distinct de celui de la scène, se développe à partir d’une matrice plus obscure du spectateur, faite de dégagements – les entrées et les sorties des acteurs, et prenant ses racines dans les enfers – les dessous de la scène.
