The question of their relationship is investigated to discover the roles they play in the narrative. In particular an examination is made of the texts where the Beloved Disciple and Peter occur together. The question of the contrast between them and its purpose is discussed. Finally, the possible symbolic roles they exercise is considered.

This paper examines the concept of perfection in the Epistle of James with regard to the followin... more This paper examines the concept of perfection in the Epistle of James with regard to the following: (1) The use and understanding of the notion of perfection( 1 ). (2) The way in which this concept embraces the entire epistle and functions as a suitable introduction. (3) Finally, this investigation will show that this call to be perfect through suffering lies very close to the thoughts contained in the Sermon on the Mount as handed down in the Matthean community.

It focuses on South African scholars who have made worthwhile contributions to our understanding and knowledge of the Sayings Gospel Q. An attempt is ultimately made to detect some trends in this regard. One significant finding perhaps worth mentioning in the abstract is the undeniable influence of Andries G. van Aarde on Q scholarship in South Africa.
