Kekuatan tanah dapat diidentifikasi melalui nilai kohesi dan sudut geser dalam. Ketika pemadatan dilakukan di lapangan kondisi ideal yaitu pada saat kadar air optimum tidak selalu bisa diperoleh, sehingga pemadatan dapat terjadi lebih kering atau lebih basah dari kadar air optimum. Akibatnya nilai parameter kohesi dan sudut geser dalam mengalami pergeseran pada rentang nilai tertentu. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan simulasi kondisi pemadatan pada kadar air optimum, 98% lebih kering dari kadar air optimum dan 98% lebih basah dari kadar air optimum. Contoh tanah dibuat di laboratorium dan diuji pada alat triaksial. Parameter kekuatan tanah yang diperoleh dari uji triaksial dengan unconsolidated undrained (UU) dengan sampel tanah yang dipadatkan telah dicoba di laboratorium.
