Questionnaires were distributed online to Japanese Internet users aged 15 to 69, sampled from Japans Internet population. We obtained 2,997 effective responses, or 72.1% of the entire sample. Comprehensive analyses of the relationships between constructs were conducted by PLS-SEM, as this analytical method is appropriate for a model with a reflective construct and formative constructs. Results based on the bottom-up spillover theory clearly indicated that the relationship between individual and overall contributions in the specified model is valid and reliable to analyze. Health life and its contribution have the highest influence on overall contribution for Japanese Internet users for the first time among existing studies. Further, positive significant individual domain...

The challenge of product innovation is the possibility of effectively taking advantage of digitalization and the internet to create a new reading experience, rather than simply imitating the experience of reading a real book. Though the textbook industry has been resistant to change, it is undeniable that an electronic book (e-book) with a plausible and viable electronic distribution scheme is better than a physical book for several applications. This paper describes a study on e-book among on-line readers. The main purpose of this study is to conceptual the on-line customers acceptance model of three pre-factors as digital structure, design, and content for intention to e-book acceptance. The acceptance model is based on on-line customers’ perceptions on perceived usefulness of the on-line readers. To examine our hypotheses, we collected data from 336 respondents who focused their responses from using experience of e-book. Results demonstrate that the complementary effects of these infrastructural related factors significantly impact both perceptions of and commitments to e-book acceptance.

Several papers in library studies and education have examined e-book consumption for academic reading. However, no previous marketing study has investigated consumers’ adoption of e-readers for pleasure reading. We address this gap by testing an extended version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with emotional attachment (TAME) in this context. Consumers’ attachment to paper books is proposed as a barrier to their adoption of e-readers. This speaks to a key deficiency of the TAM, being its focus on cognition at the expense of consumer emotion. A three-phase study finds support for the TAME, with 64% of the variance explained in consumers’ intentions to adopt e-readers. Emotional attachment to paper books is found to be weakly and negatively associated with consumers’ attitude toward using e-readers. The qualitative findings suggest that e-reader adoption may not involve a binary choice between paper and e-formats.► First study to examine consumer adoption of e-readers for pleasure reading. ► An extended Technology Acceptance Model with emotional attachment is tested. ► The model is supported, with 64% of the variance explained in adoption intentions. ► Attachment to paper books is only weakly associated with attitude to e-readers. ► E-reader adoption may not involve a binary choice between paper and e-formats.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the Malaysian children acceptance of three types of eBook readers (i.e. Plus, Comic, and Spiral). The acceptance study is based on users' perceptions on ease of use and usefulness of the three readers. As a result, majority of respondents do not give clear distinction among the readers. Generally, all readers are useful and easy to use because very big majority of the respondents (the least is 74.8%) agree with the positive statements. The users also perceived Comic reader as the easiest reader to use.

In this customer-centered era, understanding why users adopt and continue using e-book readers (e.g. eReaders and digital devices equipped with reader software) become essential design issues for related scholars and practitioners. However, critical design factors are still obscure due to the rapid pace of development and innovation in information technology. In this paper, we employ two methods including customer observation and individual depth interview to disclosure user behavioral intention toward the latest e-book readers. This research found that potential adopter intention to adopt is solely determined by normative pressures, whereas user intention is solely determined by attitude, which refers to the perception of content enrichment, reading servicisation, and device personalization. Grounded on our result and discoveries, not only researchers could have guidance in developing e-book theories in the future, but also service providers could have driving forces in advancing e-book readers.
