I am a professional engineer who, in retirement, has turned into 19th-century historian. As at January 2019,I have been researching the life and times of William Schaw Lindsay for about eight years with a view eventually to writing his biography. He is perhaps the most important Victorian shipowner and member of Parliament not to have a full biography.
