Creativity and well-being are popular subjects in psychological and organizational studies. The r... more Creativity and well-being are popular subjects in psychological and organizational studies. The recent literature presented mixed perspectives about the nature of the relationship between the two. Whereas the mad-genius hypothesis, which was often explored among eminently creative individuals, seems to imply a negative relationship between the two, trends in the field of creativity, such as everyday creativity and general psychology (i.e., positive psychology) linked them positively. The present meta-analysis study synthesized 189 effect sizes obtained from 32 samples in 26 different studies based on a total sample of 8,189. Analyses with multilevel modeling yielded a mean effect of r = .14. The moderator analysis tested the impact of age, gender, measure of creativity, measure of well-being, stimulus type of creativity measure, and index of creativity measure. Only the creativity measure explained the variation in the study outcomes. The relationship between creativity and well-being was significantly higher when creativity was measured by instruments focusing on creative activity and behavior (r = .22) than the divergent thinking tasks (r = .06). Those findings are discussed in terms of theoretical and practical implications.

The sample of study consists of 373 high school students. Results of confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the fifteen items loaded on three factors (threat, submissiveness, and unvalued) and the three-dimensional model was well fit (x²=163.71, df=86, p=0.0000, RMSEA=.049, NFI=.95, CFI=.97, IFI=.97, SRMR=.043). Factor loadings ranged from .36 to .68 and the corrected item-total correlations of ELES ranged from .33 to .60. Internal consistency reliability coefficients were .57 for threat subscale, .71 for submissiveness subscale,.78 for unvalued subscale, and .85 for overall scale. These results demonstrate that this scale is a valid and reliable instrument.

The sample consisted of 20 (10 experiment group, 10 control group) second grade students from an elementary school in Bakirkoy, Istanbul. In the study a pretest -posttest control group design was utilized. The experimental group took 8 sessions empathy development program developed by the researchers. Scale of Empathy for Children, developed by Bryant (1982) and adapted by Yuksel (2003) was used for collecting data from both experimental and control groups. In order to determine the significant differences between the scores experiment and control groups, two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted. The results indicated that empathy development program increased the empathy levels' of the students in experimental group but there was no significant difference for the control group. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizinde 20 maddeden ve tek boyuttan oluşan modelin iyi uyum verdiği görülmüştür (x²= 358,79, sd= 163, p= 0,0000, RMSEA= 0,055, NFI= 0,97, CFI= 0,99, IFI= 0,99, RFI= 0,97, GFI= 0,92, SRMR= 0,039). Ölçeğin faktör yükleri 0,52 ile 0,75, madde toplam korelasyon katsayıları ise 0,21 ile .68 arasında sıralanmaktadır. Ölçeğin iç tutarlılık güvenirlik katsayısı 0,88 olarak bulunmuştur. Abstract The aim of the present study is to examine the relationships between early life experien... more Abstract The aim of the present study is to examine the relationships between early life experiences and self-compassion. Sample of the study consists of 268 university students, in Turkey. Participants completed the Early Life Experiences Scale and the Self-compassion Scale. The relationships between early life experiences and self-compassion were examined using correlation analysis and the hypothesis model was tested through structural equation modeling. In correlation analysis, self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness factors of self-compassion were found negatively and self-judgment, isolation and over-identification factors of self-compassion were found positively related to early life experiences. The structural model fitted well (χ2 = 21.92, df = 9, χ2/df = 2.43, p = .00914, AGFI = .93, GFI = .97, CFI = .98, NFI = .97, NNFI = .95, IFI = .98, RFI = .92, SRMR = .047, RMSEA = .073). According to path analysis results, self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness were predicted negatively by early life experiences. Further early life experiences predicted self-judgment, isolation and over-identification in a positive way. This research shows that early life experiences have a direct impact on the self-compassion.
The social environment, which plays a critical role, is an important factor for self-development ... more The social environment, which plays a critical role, is an important factor for self-development during adolescence. On the other hand, gifted adolescents may be relatively at risk in social relationships. Therefore, the first objective of the current research is to examine the relationship between social anxiety and emotional eating in normative adolescents. The second objective is to examine whether this relationship would be different for academically gifted adolescents. For both groups, three constructs of social anxiety were examined: fear of negative evaluation, social avoidance and distress for new or unfamiliar situations, and social avoidance and distress for general situations. In total, 429 Dutch high school students completed measures of emotional eating and social anxiety (normative = 246, gifted = 83). The results from a confirmatory factor analysis showed that for normative adolescents only fear of negative evaluation was positively related to emotional eating (p < .001). For academically gifted adolescents, there were no significant relationships between any of the three constructs of social anxiety and emotional eating. Results and implications for future research directions are discussed. Future research projects would benefit from the exploration and addition of coping mechanisms to such studies. This could allow researchers to investigate the potential mediational effects of coping strategies between anxiety and emotional eating in these two groups.

Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 523 üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Ölçeğin psikometrik özellikleri, dilsel eşdeğerlik, açıklayıcı faktör analizi, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, ölçüt bağıntılı geçerlik, iç tutarlık ve test-tekrar test yöntemleriyle incelenmiştir. Uyum geçerliği için Öznel Mutluluk Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliği için uygulanan açıklayıcı faktör analizi sonucu maddeler orijinal formla uygun olarak tek boyutta toplanmıştır. Daha sonar yapılan doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonucu 7 maddenin tek boyuttaki uyum indeksi değerleri (χ 2 /sd=1.73, RMSEA= .047, AGFI=.96, CFI=1.00, GFI=.99, IFI=1.00, NFI=.99, RFI=.97 ve SRMR=.023) olarak bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin faktör yükleri .29 ile .86 arasında sıralanmaktadır. Ölçüt geçerliği çalışmasında öznel zindelik ile öznel mutluluk arasında pozitif ilişki görülmüştür. Cronbach Alfa iç tutarlılık güvenirlik katsayısı .84; test-tekrar test korelasyon katsayısı .79 olarak bulunmuştur. Ayrıca düzeltilmiş madde-toplam korelasyonlarının .48 ile .74 arasında sıralandığı görülmüştür. Bu sonuçlara göre ölçeğin pozitif psikoloji, sağlık ve eğitim alanında kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu söylenebilir.

Results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the four-dimensional Career Adapt Ability model (confidence, control, curiosity, and concern) model was well fit (x²=504.48, df=240 p=0.00, RMSEA=.055, NNFI=.92, CFI=.93, IFI=.93). The internal consistency coefficients of four subscales were .82, .84, .86, and .85, respectively. The overall internal consistency coefficient of the scale was .93. The corrected item-total correlations of CAAS ranged from .42 to .67.

The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that five-dimensional Career Futures Inventory model (career agency, negative career outlook, occupational outlook, support, and work-life balance) was well fit (x²=800.01, df=335, p=0.00, RMSEA=.049, NFI=.88, NNFI=.92, CFI=.92, IFI=.93, RFI=.86, GFI=.91, AGFI=.89, and SRMR=.048). The internal consistency coefficients of five subscales were .57, .81, .70, .88, and .83, respectively. The corrected item-total correlations of CFI-R ranged from .36 to .82. Overall findings demonstrated that this scale had high validity and reliability scores and that it may be used as a valid and reliable instrument in order to understand current attitudes toward a variety of career transitions. Nevertheless, further studies that will use CFI-R are important for its measurement force.
