The human personality is categorized into id, ego, and superego, while consciousness is divided into three different provinces, namely unconscious, subconscious, and conscious. However, limited language teachers’ interest in exploring such beneficial approach to learning is found. To respond to such gap, a systematic literature review was employed with following phases: identification, comprehension, application, analysis, and synthesis. Results revealed that four id EFL learning characteristics are primitive personality, biological identity, an instinct to seek pleasure, and automaticity. Hiding, covering, and undressing are the indicators of the primitive personality and are human biological responses to danger. The article addresses the current trend in English reading teaching in Indonesian context. More s... more The article addresses the current trend in English reading teaching in Indonesian context. More specifically, it aims at objectively evaluating how English reading has been taught since 2014. Selecting, reviewing articles published in nationally accredited journals in Indonesia, tabulating, describing, discussing, and concluding are the steps of data analysis. It reveals that 9 articles on English teaching do not positively respond to the urgency of reading today. Though 6-experimented reading teaching methods broaden our understanding, the reading classroom management and blended/online reading learning, the elements addressing the teaching success, are not reported. Finally, the main focus of research in reading is intensive one; no extensive reading is studied.
This action research was conducted to improve the students’ English vocabulary mastery by using p... more This action research was conducted to improve the students’ English vocabulary mastery by using picture. To achieve the objective, data were collected through the test, questionnaire and observation from 21 students in third graders of SDN Karawang Kulon II. The outcomes of the research showed that students’ vocabulary mastery got improved. This improvement is seen from the mean score of the test, i.e. 56.19 (Pre-test I), 81.90 (Post-test II), and 94.29 (Post-test II). Additionally, the result of questionnaire on the vocabulary teaching applying picture also shows the positive changes. The above data indicates that vocabulary picture can be effective media for vocabulary learning English. However, it is expected that other researchers could conduct similar researches on the related issues to develop it.

The present article seeks to respond to such challenge. To achieve the mentioned goals, we did a systematic review to previously related studies and theories. The results showed that the vocabulary was found to be more functional as a basis for communication, a reflection of social reality, emotion booster, and academic ability predictor. It also revealed that its contribution to the basic language skills varied. Finally, the principles of teaching vocabulary, size and depth, and teaching and learning vocabulary materials (TLVMs) appeared to be associated with student’s vocabulary mastery. However, there is limited number of studies on Indonesian undergraduate thesis context. This article reports the language effectiveness, i.e. lexical density and grammatical complexity of undergraduate thesis using the Flesch�s Analysis of the Readability of Adult Reading Materials (1974) and the determinant factors influencing them. This descriptive study, applying online system application, was conducted in an Indonesian pseudonym university. Forty-two undergraduate theses were used as data source of lexical density and grammatical complexity, and four English lecturers participated on interview. A debatable consensus on and appropriate approaches to literature review function as the theoreti... more A debatable consensus on and appropriate approaches to literature review function as the theoretical background of the paper. It redefines the literature review substance, synthesis, and procedure to literature matrix, and literature review assessment. In addition, some implications are to interpret the discussion. Finally, finding of the present study is applicable to any study fields at it generally provides matrix for which writing literature review can be easily conducted. Suggestions, identical to the potential of further studies and its application by on-going researcher and writer, are holistically provided.

Sixty students of tenth grade at SMA Negeri 55 South Jakarta participated on filling in 50 statements of 11 domains of motivation. An interview, another method to collect data needed and to meet a methodological triangulation, was employed to capture the participants’ perspective. Findings revealed that reading curiosity is the highest domain of the students’ motivation (92.22%), and social reason for reading is the lowest one (55.56%). Some interpretations are included in this paper.

Abstract
Membaca adalah proses mengelola dan mengubah informasi dari bentuk tulisan kedalam bentuk pemahaman abstrak dalam pemikiran manusia. Sebagai sebuah proses, membaca dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, seperti schemata dan keterampilan berbahasa pembaca. Meskipun setiap individu memiliki tingkat keterampilan dan bahkan kesukaran membaca yang variatif, koran adalah media informatif yang sangat besar pengaruhnya dalam penyebaran informasi lokal dan internasional di zaman era digital dewasa ini. Artikel ini menggambarkan jenis kendala dan tingkat kesukaran mahasiswa sebagai pembaca koran berbahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga kendala kemampuan membaca mahasiswa, yakni kosakata (20%), schemata (60%), dan struktur kalimat (20%).

This article addresses the semantic changes exploring the patterns and reasons of southern dialect lexicon of Li Niha as an evidence of language change. The semantic change patterns are: 1) Noun to Noun, 2) Noun to Adjective, 3) Noun to Verb, 4) Adjective to Adjective, 5) Adverb to Verb, 6) Verb to Noun, 7) Verb to Verb, and 8) Verb to Adjective. And the semantic change reasons are analogy, metaphor, mutual concepts, implication, and euphemism. In educational setting, the various semantic changes of southern dialect lexicon of Li Niha implicitly implicate that language standardization, i.e. selection, codification, elaboration and acceptance, is not totally employed, consequently it bears an enormously complicated problem impeding the success of teaching and learnng of Li Niha to the next generation.

The objectives of this paper are to explain the basic concept of Nias language in society and individual and to offer some effective tips for its maintenance. Nias language, society and individual are three interrelated elements; where without Nias individual (Nias people) there would not a community (tribe of Nias), and consequently there is no Nias language. Nias value-or Nias identity-is reflected by its language, which consists of sifa ba da’o (northern Nias dialect), sifa ba gandro (central Nias dialect), and sifa ba ho’o (southern Nias dialect). The use of Nias language in the society plays an important role as a means of communication in a formal and informal ceremonies, meetings (orahua), and parties (falowa). On the other hand, Nias language for individual of Nias people is mostly viewed as the main means of communication for its existence as the first and the only Nias native language. Practicing Nias language skills-listening, speaking, reading, and writing through the use of media-television, films, and radio-and networking and making friends are the tips for individual in maintaining Nias language. Living near and frequently meet Nias people, frequently contact homelander, avoiding the marriage to a majority group member for its bad influence to the next generation, and planning and employing the Nias language role in education, law and administration, religion, social media, book, article, SMS, telephone, handphone, and email are the tips for Nias language maintenace in the society.
