At the current mobile communications bands, air-filled filters are being used and tend to be bulky. The nonlinear input-output characteristics of this type of sensors tend to complicate controller design in such systems. This paper presents a nonlinear mathematical model of the photovoltaic position sensor. A three-layer feedforward neural network was trained to linearise the characteristics of the sensor. The MATLAB neural network tool (nntool) was used for neural network training. A final error of was obtained after training. Simulation of the neural network showed that linear sensor characteristics could be reproduced throughout the domain of sensor operation.

The slotted cylindrical ring resonator is one resonator considered promising in the development of high quality compact filters for mobile communication systems due to its small size and medium to high Q-factor [1]. In this paper the Transmission Line Modeling method is used to determine the effects of using a high dielectric constant material on the size and coupling constant of the resonator. Modeling and simulations are done using Microstripes, a commercial TLM field solver from Flomerics. The paper shows that by placing a high dielectric constant material in the resonator gap the resonant size is decreased and the coupling improved. Keywords: Slotted cylindrical ring resonator, resonant frequency, electric coupling, magnetic coupling, Transmission line modeling

The scheme concurrently processes blocks of cosine coefficient and pixel values during the multiplication procedure, with the aim of reducing the total switched capacitance within the multiplier circuit. The cosine coefficients, within each block, are manipulated such that some are processed using shift operations only. The remaining coefficients are presented to the multiplier inputs as a sequence, ordered according to bit correlation between successive cosine coefficients. The paper describes the multiplication scheme, the power evaluation environment used, and presents results, with a number of standard benchmark examples, demonstrating upto 50% power saving.
