The mandible is affected more often than the maxilla. Conservative treatment or radical resection may be indicated. We reviewed our experience with 16 cases of ameloblastoma. We concluded that radical resection is more appropriate despite the sequelae.

The main causes associated with amyloidosis AA were represented by chronic infectious diseases (60%). Nephrotic syndrome and renal failure were observed in 94% and 73% respectively. The distribution of amyloid deposits: 90% of patients had a glomerular form and 10% had a vascular form. Inflammatory reaction associated with AA renal amyloidosis was present in 50% of cases. This inflammation was observed near amyloid deposits associated with a deposition of immunoglobulin chains and/or complement factors. Our study confirms the predominance of AA amyloidosis complicating chronic infectious diseases, especially tuberculosis. Our data point out a relationship between the morphology of renal AA amyloidosis, its clinical presentation and prognosis.

On the other hand, there is no strategy or consensus for prenatal screening for Down syndrome (DS) included into the Moroccan pregnancy monitoring national program. This study aims to explore the awareness and attitudes of women who have a child with DS regarding prenatal screening for DS. This is an observational study based on a knowledge, attitude, and practice survey. Fifty women who have a child with DS agreed to participate in this survey. Although nearly two-thirds of women had not heard of DS or knew what prenatal screening is prior to the birth of the affected child, the majority felt that screening for DS would be useful in the first (84%) or second (90%) trimester. In line with this, most responders would agree to undergo first trimester (84%) or second trimester (80%) screening in a future pregnancy. Most (94%) of the women felt that information on DS screening should be provided to all Moroccan women in early pregnancy and that a public health program for prenatal screening should be established (94%). Deficit in knowledge was detected in awareness that first trimester ultrasound may allow screening for DS. Women who have a child with DS have low awareness of existing screening tests for the condition but have a positive attitude towards them.

A better understanding of parental factors that may be indicators of children's risk of developing dental caries is important for the development of preventive measures. This study was conducted to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of mothers in Salé, Morocco regarding oral health and their predictors. Methods A cross-sectional KAP study was conducted of Mother and Child units in Salé, Morocco. Mothers attending the selected units from November 2014 to 29 January 2015 were recruited. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire, administered by face-to-face interviews, to record socio-demographic factors and KAPs. The main outcome measures included knowledge about oral health diseases and preventive measures, and attitudes and practices related to oral health prevention measures and dental care. KAPs scores were then recoded based on responses and scor...

Our aim was to determine factors influencing the duration of breastfeeding among Moroccan hospital workers, and to explore their breastfeeding (BF) experiences. A cross-sectional study was conducted in four hospitals in Rabat/Morocco (from November 2015 to April 2016), including each woman working in the hospital, with at least one living child and who accepted to be interviewed. Data of 203 hospital workers were analyzed. The median age was 39. The median duration of any breastfeeding was 8 months. Among different categories of HW, physicians had the lowest duration of breastfeeding. Factors significantly correlated to longer duration of breastfeeding were infant rank (p = 0.003), early initiation of breastfeeding (p < 0.001), access to milk storage generally (p = 0.04), husband’s opinion on breastfeeding (p < 0.001) and category of hospital worker (p = 0.01). Three central themes emerged fro...

MATERIAL AND METHOD A transversal study on 160 radiographs of proximal coronary restorations was conducted at the University Center of Dental Consultation and Treatment of Rabat. Restorations were evaluated according to the modified USPHS criteria. Four variables were studied: restoration material, treated tooth, cavity type and location of treatment in order to identify the influencing factors. RESULTS Forty five per cent of the evaluated proximal coronary restorations required replacement. The main cause of failure was recurrent caries in 36% of cases, followed by the absence of the contact point (24.4%), unacceptable proximal coronary outline (13.8%), and finally dentin exposure (6.9%). Thus, it turned out that there is a difficulty to restore correctly posterior proximal cavities especially using amalgam and a high rate of recurrent caries at both the anterior and post...

Eighty-seven teeth were collected from Moroccan patients attending the Oral Surgery Department of the faculty of dentistry, Mohammed V University, Rabat, Morocco. The extracted teeth were then prepared for scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation at a root apex slice thickness of 5 mm. The median distance of the apical foramen from the apex was about 0.37 [0-0.62] mm, 0. 60 [0-0.82] mm, 0.71 [0.36-0.94] mm in incisors/canines, bi-rooted and multi-rooted teeth respectively, the mean apical foramen diameter was 0.30 [0.23-0.34] mm, 0.24 [0.18-0.33] mm, 0.27 [0.19-0.35] mm in incisors/canines, bi-rooted and multi-rooted teeth respectively. The apical foramen coincided with the apex in 33.5%, 33%, and 30.8% in incisors/canines, bi-rooted, and multi-rooted teeth. 16.45% of incisors, and 10.1% of the bi-rooted teeth with pulp and peri-apical diseas...
