A total of 125 farmers, 10 traders, 5 agro-vets, and 3 plant clinical doctors from four local bodies of two districts; Palpa and Gulmi, were selected for the interviews which employed a pretested questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Almost half of the farmers interviewed (48%) were found to have an average level of knowledge regarding the application of indigenous methods. Mixture of kerosene and ash, mugwort solution, plant residues, bovine dung and urine, chilli powder, papaya leaves, onion mixed with garlic, etc. were popular as traditional techniques to effective control of disease and pest. The objective of this study was to assess the trend analysis of the yield of five different major kinds of cereal (paddy, maize, millet, wheat, and barley) from 1985 to 2018 in six South Asian countries (Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh). The average annual yields of cereals in five quadrennial drought years (1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, and 2002) were estimated. The results revealed that the yield of major cereals had an increasing trend over the study period. A total of 320 respondents from four towns in three districts were selected for interviews that used a pretested questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were employed to analyze the data. Most of the youth had positive perceptions and enthusiasm toward farming, but many felt that farming was “burdensome,” due mainly to its perceived perception to provide only a low income. Almost half the respondents (45%) were found to have a low level of contribution to economic transformation through farm involvement, with high (34%) and medium (21%) levels of contribution to the economy, respectively. This review also illustrates the mechanism of drought resistance in wheat. Historical drought years in Nepal have been identified and the yield losses were assessed. Wheat encounters a variety of morphological, physiological, biochemical responses at cellular and molecular levels towards prevailing water stress, thus making it a complex phenomenon.
