Thirteen trained basketball players were divided into the tDCS trial and sham trial by the random crossover design. The tDCS trial was stimulated with 2-mA current in the M1 area in the middle of the top of the head for 20 min. For the sham trial, the current was turned off after 5 s, stopping the electrical stimulation. After warming up, the players underwent countermovement jump test, weighted countermovement jump test and then performed 40 × 15-m sprints with with a 1:4 exercise: rest ratio. The jump height, sprinting time, fatigue index, heart rate and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were analyzed by paired-sample t-test, when significance was discovered by two-way repeated measures analysis of variance. The study results revea...

Methods: The empirical work drew on a qualitative case-study approach, which was based on documentary materials and semi-structured interviews. Interview transcripts and documents were subject to coding employing Nvivo 9 qualitative data analysis software, and coding and analysis were undertaken employing a content analysis approach. Results: The collapse of the Chinese Basketball Alliance (CBA) was a critical incident and the emergence of the Super Basketball League (SBL) was a critical process for the dynamic development of Taiwanese basketball. Conclusions: The study illustrates how the outcome of one set of struggles (the collapse of CBA) shapes the context for subsequent management decision decisions, specifically, the decision for the Sport Affairs Council, the SBL clubs and the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association d...

This thesis has sought to investigate the nature of the governance system relating to basketball ... more This thesis has sought to investigate the nature of the governance system relating to basketball in Taiwanese society with emphasis on the development of basketball against the backdrop of societal development in Taiwan and in the broader political-cultural environment. Two complementary theoretical approaches are adopted in this study: those of governance theory at the meso level of analysis; and a strategic-relational approach at the macro level to explain the ways in which governance decisions are taken in strategically selective contexts which facilitate and constrain certain actions and thus outcomes. The empirical analysis draws on a qualitative case-study approach, which was based on documentary materials and semi-structured interviews. Three major cases, namely, the collapse of the Chinese Basketball Alliance, the emergence of the Super Basketball League and the sporting links with China, were selected on the basis of their significance in the operational governance of baske...

Through an analysis of supplemental documents and in-depth interviews involving actors and their strategic actions at different levels, three stages/junctures in relation to this case are addressed. The first is a critical event - the referendum proposal submission process. The second is a critical process - the referendum proposal establishment process. The third is a critical outcome - the failure of the referendum. From these three interlinked discussions, this study shows the strategic historical contexts among the stakeholders, which are used to interpret the strategic calculation. The case itself portrays how the outcome of every stage becomes the subsequent strategic knowledge and contexts and can transform into another selective context in relevant cases.

This article therefore delves into classic ontological and epistemological assumptions in the first section. Then by providing the relationship between ontology, epistemology, and methodology, we try to move from a meta-level concept to an empirical research design. This article ends with three paradigms: positivism, interpretivism and critical realism for readers to work through the ways in which philosophical consideration can be practiced in sport research.

By reviewing documentary materials and conducting in-depth interviews, the analytical results revealed that: the support of National Lottery Fund has contributed to the inauguration of the APA program; that having been substantially promoted by UK Sport; and that the APA program provided living and sport training costs for UK's World Class and talented athletes. Meanwhile, the major outcome of implementing the APA referred to the dramatic improvements in UK's athletes' performance in the Beijing Olympic Games as well as other international competitions. The study concluded that the implementation of the APA program with four implications. First, the contribution to promoting elite sport performance by the APA program. Second, the emergence of full-time athletes. Third, the value change of athletes. And finally, the possibility of sustainable development of the APA program.

Methodologically, this study uses a qualitative case-study approach, which was based on documentary material and interviews, to generate a framework by which to analyse governance of Taiwan's specific system. The article argues that actors who present various resources and interests have constrained or enabled policies when seeking to achieve their preferred ends. Given a changing governance context, actors may no longer simply impose their will; they must negotiate with the other interested parties and organisations. Meanwhile, a balance between interests can be achieved only through competition, negotiation and cooperation between actors.

Other than local dynamics, the sporting link with China also represents an important contextual element in the governance of basketball in Taiwan. This study therefore moved from a ‘local’ focus onto sporting links with China to explore the macro context relationship across the Taiwan Strait in the basketball system for governance issues. Methods: This study adopted a qualitative case-study approach, which was based on documentary material and semi-structured interviews, to generate a framework by which to analyze governance of Taiwan’s specific basketball system.
