This paper presents this technical design with consideration of the technical sustainability in terms of scalability and big data processing and analytics. A case study was used to illustrate how the technical sustainability is achieved by applying the proposed technical design to the real-time detection of the maritime risk management. This case also illustrates how machine learning mechanism helps to reduce maritime risk by guiding a cargo ship to adjust to the planned or safe route from a detour to a danger zone. This paper also discusses the implications for further research direction.

Online learning has become the “sole” solution to deal with student learning challenges during this chaotic period. In this study, we explore online learning for sub-degree students by using a community of inquiry (CoI). As such, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted on survey data gathered from 287 sub-degree students from the business and engineering disciplines. Results indicated that the network speed for online education determines the perceived cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence of students, whereas gender and academic disciplines of students are not moderating factors that create a significant difference in perceived cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence of students. Our study findings for creating and sustaining a purposeful online learning community are highlighted.

On M s and bone marrow-derived DCs, it has been shown to mediate the nonopsonic recognition of and response to soluble and particulate yeast ß-glucans. We have ...

The lack of student engagement is often an obstacle to achieving the learning outcomes (Micheletto, 2011; Wang, Shen, Novak, & Pan, 2009). If all students give answers to quizzes or polls in class, the teachers can discover excellent ideas or misconceptions. However, when the teacher calls on volunteers to answer a question, there may not be much useful feedback to the teacher. It is because only the most confident students will volunteer to answer questions and engage in discussions. Therefore, the teacher only obtains feedback from a few students who are likely to know the correct answers. As digital technologies continue to improve and become more economically viable to students and schools, much research has been done to exploit them to increase student engagement (Jungsun & Kizildag, 2011; Liu & Chen, 2015). In particular, many researches focus on the benefits and c...

This exploration was based on an extended and adjusted Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. A convenience sample of 145 higher education students completed the online pre-watch questionnaire and the online post-watch questionnaire, which were designed to measure their perceptions of the UTAUT constructs such as relevance for major (MR), performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), and behavioral intention (BI) of using the online English pronunciation video clips for learning. The headings Pre-MR1, Pre-MR2, ... in the Excel file are the pre-watch data while the headings Post-MR1, Post-MR2 in that file are the post-watch data.
