The model drug for current investigation, Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a broad spectrum third generation Cephalosporin antibiotic belongs to BCS class IV. The preformulation studies were accomplished by determining the compatibility of model drug with respective excipients by FTIR studies. These studies, revealed no chemical interaction of excipients with the model drug. The formulation development was achieved in phases comprising of preliminary screening, pre-optimization and optimization studies. The bitter taste of model drug was masked by addition of flavors and sweeteners to make it pleasant for pediatric patients upon oral administration. The formulations (F1-F6) were prepared by direct compression method. The percent released from all formulat...

Tiaridium indicum) is a widespread plant that grows like a weed and is commonly termed as ‘Hatisundu’ (Family: Heliotropiaceae, Subfamily: Boraginaceae). The plant is endogenous to Southern America and has been naturalized in North America, Africa, Asia and Australia. It is utilized worldwide owing to its ethnomedical significance. The folklore uses of the plant include uterine stimulant, antifertility, diuretic agent and many more. The widespread literature studies reveal that the plant possesses varied pharmacological activities including antimicrobial, antinociceptive, anti-ulcer, anti-glaucoma, anti-tuberculosis, and anti-plasmodial and wound healing. The wild occurrence of this species worldwide provides an opportunity to utilize this plant to paramount levels in treating diverse ailments. This review attempts to provide a comprehensive account of phytochemicals present in the different parts of the plant which are in turn responsible for its therapeutic potential.

The emulsion cross-linking method was employed to formulate the microspheres with an endeavour to achieve maximum sustained effect. Methods The FTIR studies revealed absence of any interaction between Losartan and chitosan. The emulsion cross linking method was accomplished in three steps encompassing formation of an aqueous and oily phase, emulsification and cross-linking. A total of eighteen Losartan formulations were developed using six different cross-linkers at three varying level were screened for optimum parameters. The in vitro drug release parameters of optimum formulations (LC3, LE3, LF3, LG3, LS3 and LV3) containing citric acid, epichlorohydrin, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, suphuric acid and vanillin as cross-linkers were assessed to determine the sustained effect. Results The values of evaluated parameters including per...

However, it was not until the industrial revolution that the modern polymer industry began to develop. Polymers represent an important constituent of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Polymers have played vital roles in the formulation of pharmaceutical products. Polymers have been used as a major tool to manage the drug release rate from the formulations. Synthetic and natural-based polymers have found their way into the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. Synthetic and Natural polymers can be produced with a broad range of strength, heat resistance, density, stiffness and even price. By constant research into the science and applications of polymers, they are playing an ever-increasing role in society. Diverse applications of polymers in the present pharmaceutical field are for controlled drug release. Based on solubility pharmaceutical polymers can be classified ...

Designing an effective therapy for ocular diseases has been considered as a difficult task. Major barriers in eye medication are the ability to maintain a therapeutic level of the drug at the site of action. Therapeutic drug levels are not maintained for a longer duration in target tissues. Limitations of the traditional route of administration have challenged scientists to find an alternative mode of administration like periocular routes. The ophthalmic formulations are available as buffered, isotonic, sterile solution. A number of types of dosage forms are applied as the drug delivery system for the ocular delivery. The topical ocular drop is the most suitable and patient compliant route of drug administration, especially for the management of anterior segment diseases. Ideal ophthalmic drug formulation must be able to prolong the drug re...

A 32central composite design was employed to systematically optimize the drug delivery formulations containing two polymers, viz., carbomer and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose. Response surface plots were drawn and optimum formulations were selected by brute force searches. Validation of the formulation optimization study indicated a very high degree of prognostic ability. The study successfully undertook the development of an optimized once-a-day formulation of hydralazine with excellent bioadhesive and controlled release characteristics.
