We hypothesized that a downstream target of IFN-γ, CXCL10, which recruits Th1 cells via the cognate receptor CXCR3, is an important contributor to Th1high asthma and CS unresponsiveness. We show high levels of CXCL10 mRNA closely associated with IFNG levels in the BAL cells of 50% of severe asthmatics and also in the airways of mice subjected to a severe asthma model, both in the context of high-dose CS treatment. The inability of CS to dampen IFNG or CXCL10 expression was not because of impaired nuclear translocation of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) or its transactivational functions. Rather, in the presence of CS and IFN-γ, STAT1 and GR were recruited on critical regulatory elements in the endogenous CXCL10 promoter in monocytes, albeit without any abatement of CXCL10 gene exp...

This was a cross-sectional hospital-based pilot study and the sample consisted of male patients divided into three groups: 25 patients with alcohol dependence and 25 with bipolar mania as per ICD-10 Diagnostic Criteria for Research and 25 normal controls. Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (SADQ) and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) were administered on alcohol dependent and bipolar patients, respectively. All three groups were rated on Barrett's Impulsivity Scale (BIS) and HIV Risk-taking Behaviour Scale (HRBS). None of the patients tested positive for either HIV 1 or 2. BIS motor impulsivity, BIS total score and HRBS total score were significantly higher in alcohol dependent patients as compared to bipolar mania patients. In the Alcohol dependent group, BIS score significantly correlated with education years, age of onset ...
Allele frequencies and haplotype diversity of 17 Y-chromosomal STR loci included in Y-filer™ PCR ... more Allele frequencies and haplotype diversity of 17 Y-chromosomal STR loci included in Y-filer™ PCR amplification kit were studied in 120 Garo and 139 Santal male individuals residing in two distinct regions of Bangladesh. A total of 99 different haplotypes from Garo and 129 different haplotypes from Santal individuals were observed with a corresponding discrimination capacity (DC) of 0.825 0.928 respectively. A comparison of the studied data with the published data from YHRD based on both AMOVA revealed that the Garo population is closely related to Tripuri population from Tripura, India and Santal population moderately close to Munda population from Jharkhand, India. The mainstream Bengali population resides at a significant genetic distance from these two studied populations.

Two recently proposed version of Differential Evolution (DE), named as Adaptive Differential Evolution (ADE) and Mutation Adaptive Mechanism based DE (EWMA-DE) which attempt to adapt its parameters on the fly are compared for this problem. Results reveal that EWMA-DE outperforms ADE.

We analyzed the effect of endogenous and exogenous nitric oxide on the expression and activity of ADAM17 in murine endothelial cells and a monocyte/macrophage cell line. We found that endogenous nitric oxide influenced neither ADAM17 mRNA level nor the shedding of two ADAM17 substrates, TNF and TNFR1. Exogenous NO significantly diminished the release of TNF and TNFR1 without affecting the ADAM17 transcript level. Our data seem contrary to a previous report that showed the activation of ADAM17 by nitric oxide (Zhang et al., 2000, J Biol Chem 275: 15839-15844). We discuss potential mechanisms of NO-mediated inhibition of ectodomain shedding and possible reasons of discrepancy between our results and the previous report.

Artificial Neural Network (ANN) modeling is useful for the prediction when the solution from first principle equations is not tractable. Experimental data on air-water flow through U-bends are collected from our earlier published paper and ANN modeling is used for the prediction of frictional pressure drop across the U-bends using three different algorithms of Multilayer Perceptrons (MLPs), i.e., Backpropagation, Levenberg-Marquardt and Scaled Conjugate gradient having a single hidden layer.

The majority (155/245) of our patients were of the Dengue fever (DF) category. There was no correlation between clinical bleed and platelet count as 81 non-bleeding patients were having counts < 20 x 10(3)/microL. Coagulopathy was observed in 37% of the patients with Dengue hemorrhagic fever or Dengue shock syndrome. A rapid response to platelet and fresh frozen plasma (FFP) transfusion was observed in all cases. However, inappropriate transfusion was a major concern as transfusion of 21.5% platelet concentrates was considered inappropriate.

Its applications include radio direction finding, air and space navigation, underground propagation, radar, sonar, and many other applications. A broadside uniform circular array radiates (receives) not only in the broadside direction, but, in the other directions as well. Such an array has a significant power loss due to along resting plane scanning property. The power radiation or reception pattern of a circular array is dependent on the linear distance between two consecutive elements, the radius, and the number of elements. This paper aims to reduce the along resting plane scanning by adjusting the uniform inter-element distance and the radius of the array. It has been shown analytically that, with proper choice of number of elements, and radius, the on-resting plane scanning of the array can be minimized significantly.

In this paper, symmetric linear array structures, with and without centre element are assumed. Simulated results reveal, non-uniform location profile and non-uniform excitation distribution can provide low and decreasing sidelobe and narrow first null beamwidth. Low tapering of excitation moreover restricts the directivity to that of a uniform linear broadside array with inter-element spacing as λ/2. Optimal radiation pattern is compared to initial radiation pattern and with that of the uniform array of same length. Improvement has been found for both cases. Optimal non-uniform location and excitation profile is worked out by using Novel Particle Swarm Optimization (NPSO).
