Sueo Sugimoto was born on November 15, 1946 in Osaka, Japan. He received the B. S. (1969) and M. S .(1971) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Kyoto Institute of Technology, Kyoto, Japan, and the Ph. D. (1974) degree in Electrical Engineering - System Science from the Polytechnic Institute of New York (presently, NYU Tandon School of Engineering), New York, USA. He was a professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Ritsumeikan University, Shiga and Kyoto, Japan. Presently, he is professor emeritus at Ritsumeikan University, since April 2012. His research interests include stochastic systems, control theory and statistical image-signal processing in various applications such as developing GPS/GNSS positioning algorithms, voice recognition and image processing. He published more than two hundred papers in the areas of Control, Stochastic Systems, Image Processing, Signal Processing and GPS Positioning Algorithms.

Modeling and Prediction of Regional Ionospheric VTEC for Japanese Region by Spherical Cap Harmonic Analysis

In this paper, we present the regional ionospheric delay models for Global Navigation Satellite S... more In this paper, we present the regional ionospheric delay models for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) by spherical cap harmonic analysis (SCHA). The vertical total electron contents (VTECs) are modeled for the ionospheric delays by using the GNSS observation data from GNSS earth observation network (GEONET) of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) in this research. In our previous researches, Japanese regional ionospheric VTECs have been modeled by spherical cap harmonic analysis (SCHA). The SCHA is derived by solving the boundary conditions of spherical harmonic functions. The SturmLiouville boundary conditions (mixed Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions) on the colatitude (90 [deg] - latitude) in spherical harmonic functions are solved. On the other hand, in this paper, we show that solving only Neumann boundary condition is better for the regional VTEC model. In order to solve the boundary condition, the Legendre functions of non-integer degree are considered. In the experiments, we evaluate the proposed SCHA and the original SCHA by comparing the regional ionospheric delay models of both analysis methods. We also investigate the prediction of ionospheric delays with the post-processing models developed by the SCHA. We have proposed the prediction methods by periodic autoregressive (PAR) models.

It is called the KanNon system. It displays the spectra of the speech signals, i.e. sound spectrograms, which are a 3D representation of the speech intensity in different frequency bands. We show effectively sound spectrograms applying the Burg method and display the common properties of speech signals by different speakers. Finally, we describe the composition of the KanNon system which is a real-time processing system of speech signals
