It is an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Poor awareness of the disease and delayed evaluation all add to the severity at the time of presentation. Spirometry, an important tool for the diagnosis of COPD is not done in all patients with smoking habits and dyspnea. There is a lot of interplay between the heart and the lungs and patients reporting to the cardiology department should be evaluated for a coexisting lung pathology and vice versa. As the disease is not fully reversible with treatment a multidisciplinary approach including smoking cessation, pharmacotherapy, oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation with disease coping skills are recommended.

It is basic tenet of natural medicine that health can not exist if liver is toxic. Hence low levels of glutathione seen in patients with AIDS, Cancer, Parkinson’s disease, COPD in free radical can have asthma, emphysema, chronic pulmonary disease in lung. Objective of the study was to compare the biochemical markers among smokers and non smokers. Material and Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried out among smokers and non smokers. Institutional Ethics committee permission was obtained prior the study. Informed consent was obtained from each and every study and control group patients. The study was conducted over a period of one year. The study included 56 patients in study group out of which emphysema 9 patients, COPD 12 patients, bronchiectasis 14 patients, and bronchial asthma 21 pa...

The objective of this study was to analyze epidemiological and clinical characteristics of COVID-19 patients admitted to a tertiary care center in central Kerala. This retrospective case series was undertaken by reviewing the medical records and extracting the epidemiological data, clinical symptoms and laboratory findings of consecutive patients admitted between April 1st and September 31, 2020. Clinical and demographic parameters of hospitalized patients were analyzed regarding their association with the severity of disease. The mean age of the patients was 35.8 years with significant male predominance. Shopkeepers represented 15.6% of the patients and healthcare workers represented 12.5%. Primary contact with a known case was documented in 62.5% of the patients. Asymptomatic patients constituted 25% of the patients and the most commo...

We wish to highlight a case of COVID 19 presenting as upper lobe consolidation with pre-existing co morbidities and unknown primary source of infection.
