The knowledge will be used as basis for the next update of the Management plan for the Barents Sea – Lofoten area. Our study includes a literature study and three case studies; the Lofoten Islands, Unjárgga gielda / Nesseby and Vardø. The literature study includes policy documents and research contributions and shows an increasing political focus on cultural heritage as an asset. In relation to World Heritage sites, the literature study shows that the protection status itself increases attractiveness in terms of visitors. The protection status as National Park, however, appears to have a stronger effect on visitors than the status as World Heritage or nature reserve. Findings from both the literature study and the three case studies show that natural and cultural heritage is seen as a potential for a broad value creation both ...
