However, existing work did not exploit the important property of skewed velocity distributions. In many real world scenarios, objects travel predominantly along only a few directions. Examples include vehicles on road networks, flights, people walking on the streets, etc. The search space for a query is heavily dependent on the velocity distribution of the objects grouped in the nodes of an index tree. Motivated by this observation, we propose the velocity partitioning (VP) technique, which exploits the skew in velocity distribution to speed up query processing using moving object indexes. The VP technique first identifies the "dominant velocity axes (DVAs)" using a combination of principal components analysis (PCA) and k-means clustering. Then, a moving object index (e.g., a TPR-tree) is created based on each DVA, using the DVA as an axis of the underlying coordinate system. An object...

Recently, in order to facilitate treatment decisions, a panel of experts proposed to subclassify BCLC B patients. In this study, we aimed to assess the prognostic capability of the BCLC B stage reclassification in a large cohort of patients with untreated HCC managed by the Italian Liver Cancer Group. We assessed the prognosis of 269 untreated HCC patients observed in the period 1987-2012 who were reclassified according to the proposed subclassification of the BCLC B stage from stage B1 to stage B4. We evaluated and compared the survival of the various substages. Median survival progressively decreased from stage B1 (n=65, 24.2%: 25 months) through stages B2 (n=105, 39.0%: 16 months) and B3 (n=22, 8.2%: 9 months), to stage B4 (n=77, 28.6%: 5 months; P<0.0001). Moreover, we observed a significantly different survival between cont...

The PVA films were prepared by in-situ crosslinking technique using four different crosslinking agents, such as glutaraldehyde, fumaric acid, maleic acid and malic acid. The separation performance in terms of permeation flux and separation factor of prepared membranes were evaluated for pervaporation dehydration of ethanol/water mixture of 80/20 wt% at 60 oC. The prepared membranes were also characterized by FTIR, SEM, swelling and sessile drop contact angle measurements. It was found that the chemical structure of the PVA membrane was changed via crosslinking reaction. The physicochemical properties (hydrophilicity and swelling degree) and separation performance of the prepared membranes were affected by the chemical structures of the crosslinking agents. Furthermore, there was a trade-off between permeation flux and...

Herein, we sought to fabricate an in situ-injectable PEG hydrogel system having such multifunctional effects. This PEG hydrogel was prepared with (i) nabTM-technique-based paclitaxel (PTX)-bound albumin nanoparticles with chlorin-e6 (Ce6)-conjugated bovine serum albumin (BSA-Ce6) and indocyanine green (ICG), named ICG/PTX/BSA-Ce6-NPs (~175 nm), and (ii) an albumin-stabilized perfluorocarbon (PFC) nano-emulsion (BSA-PFC-NEs; ~320 nm). This multifunctional PEG hydrogel induced moderate and severe hyperthermia (41−42 °C and >48 °C, respectively) at the target site under two different 808 nm laser irradiation protocols, and also induced efficient singlet oxygen (1O2) generation under 660 nm laser irradiation supplemented by oxygen produced by ultrasound-triggered PFC. Due to such multifunctionalit...

The work aims to evaluate the multi-objective function based on the influence of technological factors, such as final product temperature, rehydration ratio, and final moisture content. The proposed method is implemented under the optimal drying conditions of (10–25) mm sample thickness, (30–60) mm sample distance from the IR heater, (55–65) °C IR temperature, and (IR)-assisted heat pump drying time of (5.5–6.5) h. The experimental results show the completed product with the following minimum values: the final product temperature of 12.24 °C, the rehydration ratio of 2.33%, and the final moisture content of 1.51%, demonstrate the effectiveness and high efficiency of the developed method.

Black garlic contains phenolic, flavonoid and has much higher antioxidant activity than that of the natural one. This study is aiming at determining the influence of maturing tem p rature and incubation time on the transformation of the natural fresh garlic into the black one. Influence of moisture, pH, concentration of phenolic, flavonoid, antioxidant a c ivity and the organoleptic properties of the black garlic were investigated at the temperatures of 60, 70, 80 °C during the incubation period of 10, 20, 30 and 40 days. It was shown that moistu re and pH decrease while handling temperature increasing and prolonged incubation per iod. The content of amino acid, phenolic compounds and flavonoids reached their highest valu es of 5.752 mg/g, 8534 μg GAE/g dry matter and 492.41 μg GE/g dry matters, correlatively, at the temperatu re of ...

Chondroitin sulfate is used in functional food for supporting treatment of arthritis. Chicken keel cartilages, a by-product of the poultry slaughter industry, can be used as a source for CS production. Our study was undertaken to extract CS from chicken keel cartilages by the combined application of ultrasound treatment and Alcalase hydrolysis. The variables of the ultrasound treatment process, such as ratio of material and buffer, pH, temperature, and time were investigated. The optimal conditions were obtained by the Circumscribed Central Composite design method using the Modde 5.0 software. Optimal values for this process were found at pH9, ratio of material to buffer 1:9 (wmaterial/vbuffer), temperature 47.34 o C, and time within 9.2 minute. After ultrasound treatment, hydrolysis using the enzyme Alcalase was performed under the following condi...
