Trent Smith
Trent Smith serves as a Research Advisor for Space Crop Production and Space Plant Biology at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Previously he led the Technology Transfer Office dealing with intellectual property management, technology licensing, and the establishment of public-private partnerships. Mr. Smith managed NASA's Veggie facilities on the ISS for 7 years and has dedicated nearly 20 years of experience at NASA in several fields including technology development, technology application, launch vehicle processing, payload processing, space biology experiments, space crop production, and space policy. He has ten issued patents and co-authored several technical scientific peer-reviewed articles and government reports. Throughout his career as a polymer chemist, vehicle processing engineer, project engineer, and project manager, Mr. Smith has collaborated with industry, academia, and other government organizations for the development of technologies to meet NASA’s mission needs and to provide benefit to the nation. Mr. Smith is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemistry.
