Agriculture is most affected by climate change among other sectors because crop and livestock systems depend critically on climatic variables such as precipitation and temperature. The effect of climate change has been assessed in several special reports from international agencies the United Nations World Water Development (WWD), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) etc. These studies all share a common conclusion that climate change affects the availability, quality and quantity of water for basic human needs, thus threatening global food security. Following these global assessments and numerous local and regional studies, this study provides an overview of the state-of-the-art knowledge on the impact of climate change on agriculture and water r...

The Twelve (12) pure lines and a local check were evaluated in Nine (9) locations for two years. Combined Analysis and Stability Models were employed. The genotype EXPL03-10-01 had the tallest plants in the population, recorded the highest yield of 810.30kg/ha at Ryom and an overall combined yield of 696.09kg/ha. Finlay-Wilkinson stability model identified the genotype EXPL03-10-01 in the presence of changes in environmental quality, genotype x environment interaction (GEI) shows 30% higher than 1 in 2019 and 32% less than 1 in 2020 for slopes value having significant t-values in both years. GGE biplot analysis of grain yield indicated that, PC1 and PC2 explained a total of 66.3% and 15% of GGE sum of observed variations respectively. AMMI model deployed revealed that greater por...

Change in serum levels of alkaline phosphatase could assist diagnosis and follow-up of metastatic breast cancer. Aim: This study aimed to determine the clinical correlates of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in breast cancer patients with bone metastases seen in the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, Nigeria. Material and Methods: All breast cancer patients’ case note seen at the department of Radiotherapy and Oncology Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto from January 2012 to January 2017 were retrieved. The Information extracted include age, pre-treatment serum ALP, presence or absence of met

The inner loop was designed using linear algebraic method by solving a set of Diophantine equations. The outer inner loop was designed using  sensitivity approach. Simulation results showed that the plate was stabilized at 0.3546 seconds, and the ball was able to settle at 1.7087 seconds, when given a circular trajectory of radius 0.4 m with an angular frequency of 1.57 rad/sec, with a trajectory tracking error of 0.0095 m, which shows that the controllers have adaptability, strong robustness and control performance for the ball and plate system.

The test system was a reduced Nigerian 330kV power system and the focus was on the effect of disturbances on the largest generating unit (Egbin) in the system. The analysis was conducted by simulating a 3-phase fault at two locations; on the terminal of the largest generator unit at Egbin bus and the bus with the largest load at Ikeja–west. The response of the system in both cases was compared with and without the device in operation. Simulations were carried out using the Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS/E) software. Results showed that, with the UPFC in the network, system transient stability was enhanced considering that critical clearing time of the system was increased from 380ms to 590ms when the fault was at Egbin generator terminal and from 470ms to 510ms followin...

Strategies for reducing the effect of climate change have regularly been made without experimental foundations and adequate information on farmers’ vulnerability to climate change in the study area. Thus, integrated farmers’ vulnerability assessment approach was employed by classifying socioeconomic and biophysical indicators of vulnerability into adaptive capacity, sensitivity and exposure to determine the farmers’ vulnerability to climate change. This is based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s definition of vulnerability. The study adopted a survey design and the method utilized for the study was questionnaire administered to 400 households in the study area. The results indicate that the farmers’ vulnerability was low in zone A with a mean index of 2.86, very low in zone B with a mean index of 3.74, and high in zone C with a mean index of 1.95 (the higher the value of the index t...

It covered a period of 12 weeks. A 3Ă—3 Latin square design was employed in the experiment. The daily feed intake, body weight gain and feed conversion efficiency were measured during the experimental period. Results showed that the inclusion of common salt at the level of 1.0% of feed had no significant effect on feed intake (p>0.05). There was depressed feed intake as quantity of salt increased from 0.0%, to 0.5% and 1.0%. The best mean average daily weight gain of 43.45%was obtained with the 1.0% treatment. Salt inclusion up to 1.0% level in sheep ration, had no adverse effect on performance, it rather gave a more favorable weight gain and conversion efficiency. These findings are of very practical significance in sheep fattening, especially for farmers in rural setups.
