The evaluation studies of various varieties of gladiolus under drip irrigation system revealed that the Amsterdam variety showed best performance with regard to plant height (113.11 cm), duration of flowering (19.27 days), spike length (91.57 cm) and rachis length (49.12 cm) where as Peter Pears exhibited early bud initiation (83.11 days) and days to first floret opening (102.55 days). This variety also recorded maximum floret size (10.89 cm). Number of corms per plant and weight of corms per plant were found maximum in Spic and Span (1.44 and 39.56 g), respectively. Amsterdam exhibited maximum number of cormels per plant (29.33) and weight of cormels per plant (4.35 g). Average corm diameter was recorded maximum in Peter Pears (4.41 cm) and minimum in Spic and Span (4.17 cm).

High phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation in pod yield/plant, plant height and number of primary branches/plant indicated the existence of variability based on these characters. High heritability and high genetic advance in pod yield/plant, plant height and number, primary branches/plant indicated that selection can be made for improvement. The pod yield which was highest in VL-3 ranged from 54.33 to 91.52 g/plant, exhibited 76.80 percent heritability and a fare amount of genetic advance as percent of mean.

The vegetative and flowering characters as well as corm and cormel characters showed significant differences amongst the studied hybrids. The maximum percent of corm sprouting (90.33%) was recorded in SK-96-4/6 and minimum days taken to flowering were exhibited by SK-96-4/4 (85.66 days). Maximum bloom period was noticed in SK-96-5/3 (16.66 days) and the hybrids SK-96-5/1 and SK-96-4/16 showed significantly highest plant height (127.33 cm each). Same hybrid viz SK-96-4/16 exhibited maximum spike length (109.25 cm) and number of florets per spike (18.50). Maximum vase life in plain water was displayed by SK-96-4/16, SK-96-5/6 and SK-96-8/1 (7.33 days each). With regard to the yield paramet...

Experimental data were collected, i.e. Plant height, total branch plant1, number of fruits plant1, average fruit weight, fruit length, fruit breath, Fruit yield Plant1 (Kg), fruit yield q/ha, production efficiency (Kg/ha/day), Economic efficiency (Rs/ha/day), Gross returns (Rs/ha), Net Returns (Rs/ha). The experiment was laid out in Complete Randomized Block Design. The mean data of all the observations over two years were pooled and statistically analyzed. The result revealed that a maximum number of fruit/plant (26.648), average fruit weight (90.634 gm), Fruit yield/Plant, (2.425kg/ha), fruit yield per hectare (471.5182 q/ha), production efficiency (589.397 ...

The fairly low maintenance, succulent hardy nature high yielding, better keeping quality and survival low irrigation make dragon fruit a paying proposition. It is belongs to family Catacaeae. This is due to its special colour (especially red/purple pigments in red-flesh dragon fruit), high nutritional values and ant-oxidative properties of the fruit. Dragon fruit having heavy nutritional value energy 264 Kcal, water 87 g,protein1.1 g, fat 0.4 g, carbohydrate 11.0 g, fiber 3g, calcium 8.5 mg, iron 1.9 mg, phosphorus 22.5 mg,vitamin B1 (Thiamine) 0.04 mg, vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) 0.05 mg and vitamin B3 (Niacin) 0.16 mg per 100 g fruit pulp. It is very useful for lower blood sugars in type 2 diabetes. Dragon fruit is beneficial for carbohydrate metabolism, heart tissues, and teethes, healthy blood and tissue formation strengthening bones due to high calcium content, strengthening immune...
