The objective was to characterize, through epidemiological survey, the profile of chikungunya infection in a mid-sized municipality in Mato Grosso according to sociodemographic and sanitary factors. Methods: The serum-epidemiological survey was conducted with 596 adults aged ≥ 18 years selected by cluster sampling process, with application of questionnaires and biological material collection. Positive cases of chikungunya fever were those with positive results in the antichikungunya virus enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). Metodo: trata-se de um estudo exploratorio, retrospectivo e do tipo misto, referente ao periodo de 2003 a 2014. A coleta de dados foi realizada em janeiro de 2015 no DATASUS, incluindo todos os estados brasileiros, e nas bases de dados da Bireme e PubMed. Resultados: as abelhas africanizadas possuem uma facilidade em se adaptar e sobreviver, assim se disseminam em locais novos que facilitam com o contato acidental com o homem tanto em ambiente urbano como rural. Os casos no pais aumentam anualmente e estao distribuidos em todos os estados da federacao com maior incidencia em Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Parana, Rio Grande do Sul e Pernambuco. Objetivo: Analisar a qualidade microbiologica das aguas residenciais e dos rios Cuiaba e Coxipo, ... more Objetivo: Analisar a qualidade microbiologica das aguas residenciais e dos rios Cuiaba e Coxipo, assim como determinar o perfil de susceptibilidade aos antimicrobianos das estirpes de Escherichia coli isoladas. Metodo: Foram coletadas 42 amostras de agua no municipio de Cuiaba-MT, sendo 40 residenciais e uma de cada rio. Realizou-se testes para coliformes totais e termotolerantes, semeadura em agar EMB, prova de indol e teste de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos (TSA). Resultados: 2,5% das amostras residenciais e as duas amostras fluviais foram positivas para coliformes totais e termotolerantes. Atraves dos testes bioquimicos, foram isoladas e identificadas sete estirpes de E. coli das amostras dos rios. No TSA, constatou-se que as bacterias de estudo foram sensiveis a oito antimicrobianos testados, demonstrando resistencia somente a penicilina G. Objetivou-se comparar as estratégias preventivas implementadas para hantavirose em comparação com a dengue nos municípios endêmicos para esses agravos em Mato Grosso, Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo, documental e descritivo sobre as ações preventivas para dengue e SPH nos municípios mato-grossenses que registraram casos dessas doenças. Os resultados permitiram verificar que as estratégias adotadas pelos municípios eram fragmentadas e concentravam-se em ações voltadas preferencialmente para dengue, em detrimento da importância endêmica da hantavirose e de seus impactos. The present study was designed to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity of Copaifera langs... more The present study was designed to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity of Copaifera langsdorffii oleoresin, which has been used in folk medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, healing among others. The oleoresin was tested against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterococcus faecalis) and Gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) bacteria related to infections in cutaneous wounds. Antimicrobial activity was determined by the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) assays. Copaiba oleoresin showed antimicrobial activity only against the Gram-positive bacteria with MIC of 200 μg/mL, 400 μg/mL and 1100 μg/mL for S. aureus, S. pyogenes and E. faecalis, respectively. MBC values were the same as MIC for S. aureus and S. pyogenes and for E. faecalis it was 1200 μg/mL. The Gram-positive bacteria had terminal and subterminal endospores, presented metabolic characteristics of mesophilic and acidophilic growth, halotolerance, positive to nitrate reduction and enzyme production, as caseinase and catalase. The analysis of partial sequences containing 400 to 700 bases of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene showed identity with the genus Bacillus. However, its identity as B. subtilis was confirmed after analyses of the rpoB, gyrA, and 16S rRNA near-full-length sequences. Objetivo: avaliar coliformes fecais e presenca de fungos filamentosos em pimenta do reino ( Piper... more Objetivo: avaliar coliformes fecais e presenca de fungos filamentosos em pimenta do reino ( Piper nigrum L .), acafrao (Curcuma longa L.), canela em po ( Cinnamomum cassia L.) e cominho ( Cuminum cyminum L.) desidratados comercializados em feiras livres de Cuiaba e identificar se tais produtos apresentam-se dentro dos padroes microbiologicos. Metodo: as especiarias foram adquiridas em tres feiras livres. Nas 12 amostras, as enterobacterias foram selecionadas mediante placas de Petri de agar MacConkey.
