Until now the potential benefits of SSG have not been investigated in a Randomised Control Trial (RCT). Materials and methods Fifty six older women were recruited from each of two urban communities in Khon Kaen, Thailand. One community was randomly assigned as the Exercise Group (mean age 68.3 years, standard deviation 5.6 years) and the other as the Control Group (69.4 years, 4.4 years). The Exercise Group performed SSG for 40 minutes, three days per week for two months, whereas the Control Group maintained their usual daily life. Measurements of Posture (C7 to Wall Distance (C7WD), Standing Height (SH), Flexibility (Back Scratch of Left and Right arms (BSL and BSR) and Chair Sit and Reach of Left and Right legs (CSRL and CSRR), Gait (Timed Up and Go (TUG)), and Cognition (Barthel...

Traditional Thai massage (TTM) is a popular alternative treatment in Thailand for reducing fatigue and improving sleep quality. This study aimed to examine the effect of traditional Thai massage on sleep quality in adults. Twenty-eight adults with poor sleep quality (based on Verran and Snyder-Halpern sleep scale) participated. They were randomly allocated into a control group (n = 14) and a TTM group (n = 14). Participants in the TTM group received three 90-min whole body traditional Thai massage sessions within one week, whereas the control group participants maintained their daily lives. Quality of sleep was assessed before and a day after the massage sessions. The outcome measure was the Verran and Snyder-Halpern sleep scale. The within-group data was analyzed by Paired t-test, whereas ANCOVA did the between-group data. The results showed that the p...

The 5-point Likert WOMAC was developed to use among older people with knee OA. Aim of this study was to estimate the test–retest reliability of Thai 5-point Likert version of WOMAC in older people with knee OA and correlation with visual analogue scale (VAS) pain. Thirty older people with symptomatic knee OA aged 50-85 years (average age 68.7±7.4 years) have live in Tumbon Sila, Muang district, Khon Kaen province. All subjects were completely asked to self-reported functional impairment the WOMAC form, 2 times with assistance of investigators. The WOMAC includes 3 dimensions in evaluating of pain, stiffness and physical functioning of the joints. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to describe the test- retest reliability. The ICC of pain dimensio...

The main aim of the present investigation was to assess the prevalence of WMSDs among brick field workers. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 216 brick field workers. A modified Nordic questionnaire was applied among them. In brick making industry, the workers adopt different unfavorable actions, such as frequent bending; bending and twisting of the body; and working above shoulder height, which may lead to severe pain in different parts of the body, especially lower back (brick carriers: 90%; moulders: 92%; fireman: 75%; stackers: 88%) and neck (brick carriers: 89%; moulders: 88%; fireman: 54%; stackers: 72%), It was concluded from the study that health of the brick field workers was highly affected due to working in different awkward postures for long periods.

Behavioral activation (BA), which can easily be adapted for non-clinical populations, has been the recommended treatment for depression. It is based on a model of psychopathology explaining that losses or chronically low levels of positive reinforcement yield behavioral and emotional changes in depression and that encouraging individuals to increase their engagement in reinforcing activities can improve their mood and enhance their valuable life experiences. Heart rate variability (HRV) provides indices of autonomic function related to depression, but only a few studies have investigated the effect of BA on HRV, particularly among older adults with subthreshold depression. Accordingly, we aimed to investigate the effect of BA on HRV in older adults with subthreshold depression. Methods We conducted a 9-month cluster randomized controlled trial in two Health Promoting Hospitals (HPHs). Eigh...

The goal of the present study was to create a standardised TTM protocol to treat office syndrome (OS) diagnosed based on the identification of the palpation of at least one so-called myofascial trigger point (MTrP) in the upper trapezius muscle. The new 90 min TTM protocol, which was developed following appropriate review of the literature and in consultation with relevant experts, has 25 distinct steps (20 pressing steps, 2 artery occlusion steps, and 3 stretching steps). Eleven TTM therapists treated three patients each using the new 90 min TTM protocol. All of the therapists reported scores greater than 80% in respect to their satisfaction and confidence to deliver the protocol, and all of the patients gave the treatment a satisfaction score of greater than 80%. The treatment produced a significant reduction in pain intensity measured o...

Further, prior studies have failed to identify objective indicators of core symptoms or elucidate their mechanisms. We developed a parent-delivered traditional Thai massage (TTM) on children intervention with autism, aim is to access the physiological (gait and heart rate variability) and psychological effects of intervention. Methods and analysisA two-armed, parallel randomized controlled trial study will recruit forty-eight children with autism from the XX Special Education School at the beginning of Febuary2022. They will be randomly assigned to either a parental TTM or control group with a ratio of 1:1. Individuals in the parental TTM group will receive 16 parent-delivered TTM sessions over 8 weeks. The outcome will be assessed on admission, after 8 weeks, and as well as at 2-month follow-up, i...

Most preventive strategy studies of falls have involved exercises to promote strength and balance. However, these exercise programs were designed by therapists without the elderly’s participation in designing the programs. The objective of this research was to study effects of physical therapy program with client-centered approach on functional balance (Berg Balance Scale and Timed Up and Go Test) in the elderly. A 12-week study was conducted in 9 elders with fall risks (2 men and 7 women, mean age 77.4 ± 5.8 years) of Samliam 1 community, Khon Kaen Province. During the first 4 weeks, specific problems relating to functional balance of each subject were assessed and discussed between the subject and the investigator, after which a physical therapy program with client-centered approach to improve functional balance was cooperatively designed and individually tailored to each elder. The subject was then instruct...

To measure the skin foot temperature using infrared thermography (IR) may be an appropriate method. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the reliability of IR for skin foot temperature in type 2 DM patients. Thirty participants were recruited. Each patient was measured 3-times consecutively, in both feet. They were instructed to take a rest for 10 min and their feet were clean prior to the trial. The results show that the skin foot temperature using IR had a high reliability in all 6 areas of both feet with the Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) between 0.98 to 0.99 ( p -value < 0.001). In conclusion, infrared thermography has excellent reliability. Therefore, it could be used as an alternative method for follow up physical therapeutic treatment and for using as an important variable in research.
