Clinical signs of the disease included reduced feeding. lethargy, cloudy eves, discoloration, excessive mucus production, and eventually death. Although the parasite has been previously reported for five of these species, this is the first report of N. melleni parasitosis in captive white grunts (Haemulon pluinieri), bluestriped grunts (H. sciurus), and saucereye porgies (Calamus calamus). Tropical marine fish culture may be constrained by N. melleni infections, due to the pathogen's virulence and lack of host specificity.
