Water is essential for life. Considering its importance for humans, it must be periodically analy... more Water is essential for life. Considering its importance for humans, it must be periodically analyzed to ensure its quality. In this study, a wireless water quality network is deployed to collect water quality parameters periodically and an artificial neural network-based estimation method is proposed to estimate groundwater quality. Estimating groundwater quality enables the authorities to take immediate actions for ensuring water quality. Compared to traditional water quality analysis methods, the proposed method has the advantage of letting the authorities know the quality of their water resources beforehand. A set of simulation studies given in this paper proves the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.

Arastirmada nicel ve nitel veri toplama teknikleri kullanilmistir ve arastirma verileri, 2013-2014 egitim-ogretim yilinda Trakya Universitesi Egitim Fakultesinde ogrenim gormekte olan 410 ogrenci ve ayni fakultede gorev yapmakta olan 12 ogretim elemanindan elde edilmistir. This study presents a comparison of two pronoun resolution systems developed for identifying the ... more This study presents a comparison of two pronoun resolution systems developed for identifying the antecedents of third-person personal pronouns referring to proper person names in Turkish texts of any genre. The first one is a syntax-based system which employs a simple syntax-based heuristic rule along with simple semantic and syntactic constraints and some preferences, whereas the second one is a knowledge-poor system using limited syntactic knowledge through language-specific constraints and preferences. The implemented systems were run on the same test corpora, whereby manifestations of each approach on Turkish were observed and some future directions to pursue are addressed in this paper with a helping hand from the analysis of these observations. Storytelling is one of the oldest human activities for sharing information, entertainment, etc., ... more Storytelling is one of the oldest human activities for sharing information, entertainment, etc., and it is not wrong to say that myths were the most common form of storytelling through all ages in all cultures. Thanks to the researchers starting with Adolf Bastian and followed by Carl Gustav Jung and Joseph Campbell we now know that there is a common structure in myths regardless the cultural environment they are told in. Among the monomyths of Jung maybe the most interesting one is the hero and, as Campbell showed in “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”, his journey. Crucially, the hero’s journey is not only a spatial journey but also a temporal one. The aim of this paper is to show that the temporal journey of the hero in the film series Star Wars, Episode IV-VI, can be organized into a fractal-lattice structure. These general-purpose models can also be used in specific fields of application. As they are very big by nature, ontologies are prone to errors and omissions if they are formed manually. Furthermore, it might be difficult to adapt an ontology formed in this way to a particular field of application. This paper presents a formal ontology developed and integrated into the FrameNet technology via concept lattices which in turn provide us with a semantic analysis of sentences.

These general purposeful models can be also used in the special fields of application. Because ontologies are large-scale by their nature, they have the potential of hosting errors and deficiencies in case they are generated by human labor. Besides, an ontology formed such a way will be difficult to be adapted to a application specific. In this study, an application of a computerized formal ontology formation saved from probable problems which are likely to arise using human labor will be introduced. In the application, semantic analysis of Turkish has been targetted as a special application field using corpus-based marking method in the framework of formal concept analysis. Beside the applications of these kinds of natural language processing formal ontologies are used considerably in the field of education as they present the information in the way of semantic structures clearly and meaningfully. The most important reasons of this are the use of the information technologies such as expansion of constructivist approach and the concept maps used for educational reasons.
