Physics, biology, geology, and chemistry all have had significant observational components in the... more Physics, biology, geology, and chemistry all have had significant observational components in the course of their development. Chemistry projects the image of an experimental discipline par excellence. Its emergence depended so heavily on the use of scientific instruments that analytical chemistry was deemed "the mother of modern chemistry".1 While this paper stems from a long-term interest in the history of chemistry, its scope has been broadened beyond the confines of one discipline.
Globalization, albeit no longer so global these days, affects children’s values, self-images and ... more Globalization, albeit no longer so global these days, affects children’s values, self-images and world outlook through targeted marketing of fairy tales, games and assorted media products. This article analyzes these effects and proposes to those concerned a number of measures to counteract them.

Progressive measures and modernization were favored by the East-West competition and the economic prosperity, but the neoliberal order’s primacy calls into question social gains and the right to modernize for some nations, which highlights the reversible aspect of modernity.
