Aside from the common priesthood, there is also ministerial priesthood which is assumed and exercised by the clergy, the ordained persons (deacon, priest and bishop). They are the official ministers for the teaching, sanctifying and ruling office in the Church, but in strict sense, these are held by the bishops as the successors of the apostles in union with the Head, Pope as the successor of Peter. In this hierarchical structure, can a lay person preach at the liturgy if the “official minister (preacher)” is a cleric? This is a profound question to be elaborated in this work. The historical, canonical and pastoral backgrounds of lay preaching is traced and circumstances as well as conditions required to carry it out in the course or outside of liturgy celebrated in a mission station or parish in the Archdiocese of Makassar are expounded as well.

There have been extensive changes in the canonical and theological attitudes including marriage because of the acceptance of ecumenical movement as well as advances in the Church's teaching on religious freedom. Consequently, the canonical norms on mixed marriages occupy significant place in the juridico-pastoral life of the particular and universal Church as well. This is so because, apparently, mixed marriages stand in close connection with the ecclesiological doctrines of ecumenism and of religious freedom which, its ultimate ends is the salvation of souls. If mixed marriages have such a salvific role in the life of Christians, what is the interplay between mixed marriages as canonical matter ad normam canon 1124 and ecumenism as well as religious freedom in the life of the universal and particular Church? This canonical inquiry focuses on the interplay between canonical and ecumenical norms as well as religious freedom in relation to mixed marriages.
