Little research has been conducted on the issue. The purpose of our research is to assess the attitude of medical students in our university, while driving. Students use their mobile phone more because of the increased number of applications on smart phones. Methodology: The study design is a across sectional study, based in the medical department in Majmaah university. The sample size comprised 218 students, and data were collected by pre tested questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS. Results: Students who use a mobile phone while driving were 87%. Most of the students use their mobile phone while others are in the car (59.5%). Conclusion: We have observed that 87% of the students said that they use a mobile phone while driving and the majority of those who had negative impacts (74.7%), are still using their mobile phone (81.6%). Many risk factors like increased human-animal interactions, climate change, increased mobility of people and limited diagnostic facility have contributed to the rapid spread of VHF. Materials: The history of VHFs in the Saudi Arabian Peninsula has been documented since the 19th century, in which many outbreaks have been reported from the southwestern region of Saudi Arabia. Despite presence of regional network of experts and technical organizations, which expedite support and respond during outbreaks, there are some more challenges that need to be addressed immediately. Gaps in funding, exhaustive and inclusive response plans and improved surveillance systems are some areas of concern in the region which can be dealt productively. This review primarily focusses on the hem- orrhagic fevers that are caused by three most comm...

The prevalence of obesity ranged from 14% in children less than 6 years to about 83% in adults. Women were more prone to be overweight or obese than men. Several factors were reported to be associated with obesity in this country such as age, sex, socio-economic status, employment, education, and parity. More studies are needed to determine cultural influences in developing obesity. Strategy to prevent obesity in Saudi Arabia should include encouragement of physical activity, reduce intake of high fat foods and behaviour modification.

The diagnosis of PCOS was done by different methods including clinical signs as anovulation, hyperandrogenism, biochem- ical markers and ultrasounographic investigation. This study investigated comparative outcomes of ultrasonographic and biochemical markers for early prediction of PCOS in obese women. Subjects and methods: Seventy-five patients were clinically diagnosed with obese, PCOS and obese with PCOS and twen- ty-five normal age matched subjects were enrolled as control. Abdominal and transvaginal ultrasonographic for assessment of ovarian properties. In addition, BMI, serum free testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and LDL-c levels were evaluated. Results: In obese patients with PCOs (20%) ovaries revealed normal appearance in morphology while the rest (80%) showed PCOs in the form of cysts of 2–8 mm in diameter per...

Most medical doctors working in Sudan have not received formal training in EBM. There is evidence that most physicians base their medical decisions on their own previous experience, consultation with colleagues or simply use common sense, and there is consistent evidence of physicians’ failure to translate research finding into clinical practice. Studies addressing medical doctors’ attitudes toward EBM are lacking in the Arab world and in developing countries in general. Sudan is not an exception, and there is a lack of information about the knowledge, attitudes and practices of its medical doctors of various specialties regarding EBM.

Its possible role in chemoprevention and chemotherapy of cancer is an issue that is widely discussed. This article will review several possibilities for the mechanism of interaction between vitamin A and cancer.

The data for this cross-sectional study were collected by a team from the girls' school health services as a part of the health campaign that was organised by Ministry of Education. The survey included questions about the frequency of soft drink consumption and factors related to soft drink consumption. The total number of school children responded was 1,408 students, their age ranged from 12 up to 16 years. Children from intermediate girls' schools in Jeddah City (including north, east, south and west) were selected to represent the different social settings of the city. Preference for the taste of soft drinks was the strongest predictor in the analysis, with those who reported the strongest taste preference 32.9 times more likely (95% confidence interval, 12.50-86.50). School children whose parents drank soft drinks were 1.45 times more likely (95% confidence interval, 0.96-2.20). The availability of soft drink at home was significantly associated with its consumption, relative risk 2.66 (95% CI = 2.3-3.05) and parents' soft drink intake was also associated with school children's soft drink consumption, relative risk 2.3 (95% CI, 1.79-2.99). Results suggest that several factors may be associated with soft drink intake in school-aged girls, most notably taste preferences, soft drink consumption habits of parents and soft drink availability in the home. Additional research is needed to verify these findings in a representative sample of children.

A large percentage of mothers (98%) had breastfed their infants at birth. This rate dropped to 96.5% during the first week of life. There were 635 (64.1%) mothers who started to breastfeed their babies within 6 hours of delivery. Over two-thirds (68.9%) of mothers gave supplemental liquids to infants during the first 3 days of their life. More than half fed their infants on demand rather than on schedule. A high proportion (94.4%) breastfed at night, with 88.1% feeding their infants more than once. There was no significant relationship between the duration of suckling and the mother's age or work status (p 0.05). However, a significant relationship (p 0.001) was found between the duration of suckling and the mother's literacy. More than three-quarters of mothers slept in the same bed with their infants or in the same room. A large percentage of women initiated breast feeding; however, many introduced a supplement too early, a practice that should be discouraged.
