The aim of this article is to investigate how the school libraries are put in discourse within th... more The aim of this article is to investigate how the school libraries are put in discourse within the brazilian public policies that (supposedly) have them as focus, highlighting the lack and misunderstanding that go trough the discourse and such initiatives. We also analyzed, from the perspective of french discourse analysis, the law nº. 12244/2010 (which aims at universalisation of libraries in all educational institutions in the country) in order to investigate how the discursive memory supports the return of some meanings which have already said about this institution, meanings constructed by power relations that allow them naturalization, besides researching if the discourses that circulate in this document point to a change in how the library has been stated so far, allowing the emergence of new dicursive positions, other meanings that bring the promise of new possibilities for the school libraries.

It aims to understand how the imaginary about this institution is constructed, in the area of Information Science, and to reflect on how this symbol is influenced by the social, historical and ideological conditions of discourse production and by memory. To develop these questions, first of all, it accomplishes a brief review of the literature concerning the French Discourse Analysis; then it analyzes discourses about the school library in nineteen scientific documents (articles and works presented at scientific events), and also the different meanings of this information unit, its objectives and its ways of constituting the social imaginary. It is concluded that the information professionals could and should collaborate to the spreading of new practices and meaning in the school library.

Like this, taking the postulates of the discursive theory founded by Michel Pêcheux, interests to us interpret a corpus collected on-line and whose cuttings point Internet as an observatory of more plural senses, given by the confrontations among different discursive formations that they are mixed, among senses and subjects in constant movement and interaction, propitiated by the volatility of the net and for the malleableness of the discourse.

The reading, in this discursive perspective, is a historically constructed process, in which the sense isn’t ready, because it depends on the socialhistorical position occupied by the subject, allowing the ambiguity, the misunderstanding, the “hole” that allows to understand that the language is also the place of non-communication. We undertook an analytical route of clippings that we got through the offer “Reading on the Internet is ...", corpus that were collected from an exercise done at the IV Congress of Discourse Analysis - Reading(s) in the discourse and Information Science. We believe that the reading held on Internet allows the inscription of other senses: it isn’t only a change of support, but an another way of reading and production of senses. We noted in our analysis two regularities present in the clippings, namely: i) the grandiosity of the Internet which enchants the subject-reader who, in turn, believes to have access to all files that exist there, and ii) the negative characteristic of the reading on the screen, that causes discomfort and irritation in front of many possibilities available for the reading.

For this, we did a brief historical account on the development of the brazilian school libraries that was marked by senses of lack and restriction which are updated by the operation of discursive memory when they are reproduced in the contemporary discourse about this institution and the activities that are realized in its space. The reading, in this discursive perspective, is a historically constructed process, in which the sense isn’t ready, because it depends on the socialhistorical position occupied by the subject, allowing the ambiguity, the misunderstanding, the “hole” that allows to understand that the language is also the place of non-communication. We undertook an analytical route of clippings that we got through the offer “Reading on the Internet is ...", corpus that were collected from an exercise done at the IV Congress of Discourse Analysis - Reading(s) in the discourse and Information Science. We believe that the reading held on Internet allows the inscription of other senses: it isn’t only a
change of support, but an another way of reading and production of senses. We noted in our analysis two regularities present in the clippings, namely: i) the grandiosity of the Internet which enchants the subject-reader who, in turn, believes to have access to all files that exist there, and ii) the negative characteristic of the reading on the screen, that causes discomfort and irritation in front of many possibilities available for the reading.
