It is our continent’s biggest (living) heritage, subject to a range of converging interests and extended uses, other than just devotional. An ever increasing demand for access by new stakeholders, and the lack of financial, human and technical resources, raise unprecedented challenges for this, shared space. This article sheds some light on several, mutually intertwined issues that affect management and governance of religious sites and then investigates the case of Chorus to see how preservation and enhancement of historical religious sites can benefit from a sharing-and-integration approach. Today it is customary to speak of the collaborative potential of culture and business to achieve ... more Today it is customary to speak of the collaborative potential of culture and business to achieve benefits in one’s cultural and professional lives. Making sense of the involvement of culture in firms, however, requires a better understanding of the link between cultural practices and projects and the development of business models. This paper focuses on companies that place culture at the core of their respective production practices and business models, with particular reference to those offering culture-based products. For these kinds of products, the creation, preservation, enhancement and transmission of a specific culture all play vital roles in embedding particular aesthetic and symbolic content in their unique consumption experiences. In order to explore the integration of cultural and commercial strategies that culture-based products seem to drive, we propose an early study through the investigation of a set of brands competing in the same field.

In response to evolving cultural policies, lack of public funds available, the need to respond to social demands and better relate with territory and communities, museums are seeking other ways of working, including building relationships with stakeholders, and creating a mixed economy of public and private collaboration. The paper focuses on what are the development opportunities and organisational impacts that take shape when a museum adopts a particular type of strategy: the co-production with culture-based companies. The study relates to the ongoing discussions about "the new museology", the development of participatory practices, public and private partnerships, "culture and business".
