CREATIVE ADAPTATION OF NATIONAL ISSUES IN ADVERTISING MESSAGES: A STUDY OF ''I GO BLOW WHISTLE'' ON MTN GOODY BAG ADVERTISEMENT

This study undertook a critical analysis of creative adaptation of national issues in developing... more This study undertook a critical analysis of creative adaptation of national issues in developing advertising messages. The study was anchored on the Persuasion Theory. The survey design method was employed to elicit relevant information from a sample of 400 respondents, valid out of 400 questionnaires administered in Benin Metropolis in Edo State. The data analyzed, using simple percentage showed that a total of 386 (96.5%) exposed to the punch line ‘I go blow whistle’ respondents are on MTN goody bag advertisement, and punch line ‘ 340 (85.0%) I go blow whistle’ respondents agreed that the create the mindset for respondents to understand the whistle blowing policy act. In producing creative advertising messages that adapts national issues geared towards convincing the target consumers and general public, since the issue talked about is something majority of the people in the society can relate with. This is because, national issues, culture, colours, languages, and others that are adopted in advertising messages often plays huge roles in determining the latter’s response while making buying decisions. However, the study, therefore, recommends that advertising practitioners should embrace creative adaptation of national issues in advertising as a mechanism to influence customers towards their product and services, while canvassing support for national issues.
