The purpose of this study is to examine gender differences in adolescent athletes’ expectancy-rel... more The purpose of this study is to examine gender differences in adolescent athletes’ expectancy-related beliefs and task values as well as the relationship between the two constructs within the expectancy-value model of achievement choice. The participants were 349 males and 283 females (N = 632) participating in the 34 th Sarawak School Sports Inter-Division Athletic Meet. They were divided into two age groups of 15 and 18 years. They completed questionnaires assessing their expectancy-related beliefs and subjective task values. Results revealed gender differences in expectancy-related beliefs but no differences emerged in the task values. The results also indicated that expectancy-related beliefs and subjective task values were related to each other positively.
