Eighteen units of Body Expression in different programmes of Physical Education Teacher Education... more Eighteen units of Body Expression in different programmes of Physical Education Teacher Education for the year 2009-2010 were analysed with two purposes: a) assessing the level of definition and clarity of the elements that made up the units and b) analysing coherence between assessment and the other constituent elements. As main results we highlight the existence of a high degree of definition and clarity in wording objectives, contents, and assessment, but instead, the methodology is little defined and competencies are barely mentioned. There are important differences between units regarding the coherence between each of the elements and the assessment. After the study, is evident the need to clearly define the components of the units, which ultimately are the staging of the teaching model of a Department, in terms that focus the gaze on the learner. Therefore it will be important that learning outcomes are explicit and consistent with the general and specific lines of the degrees.

Hearing in mammals depends upon the proper development of actin-filled stereocilia at the hair ce... more Hearing in mammals depends upon the proper development of actin-filled stereocilia at the hair cell surface in the inner ear. Whirlin, a PDZ domain-containing protein, is expressed at stereocilia tips and, by virtue of mutations in the whirlin gene, is known to play a key role in stereocilia development. We show that whirlin interacts with the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) protein, erythrocyte protein p55 (p55). p55 is expressed in outer hair cells in long stereocilia that make up the stereocilia bundle as well as surrounding shorter stereocilia structures. p55 interacts with protein 4.1R in erythrocytes, and we find that 4.1R is also expressed in stereocilia structures with an identical pattern to p55. Mutations in the whirlin gene (whirler) and in the myosin XVa gene (shaker2) affect stereocilia development and lead to early ablation of p55 and 4.1R labeling of stereocilia. The related MAGUK protein Ca2+-calmodulin serine kinase (CASK) is also expressed in stereocilia in both outer and inner hair cells, where it is confined to the stereocilia bundle. CASK interacts with protein 4.1N in neuronal tissue, and we find that 4.1N is expressed in stereocilia with an identical pattern to CASK. Unlike p55, CASK labeling shows little diminution of labeling in the whirler mutant and is unaffected in the shaker2 mutant. Similarly, expression of 4.1N in stereocilia is unaltered in whirler and shaker2 mutants. p55 and protein 4.1R form complexes critical for actin cytoskeletal assembly in erythrocytes, and the interaction of whirlin with p55 indicates it plays a similar role in hair cell stereocilia.
Vasculitis with predominant renal involvement are increasingly observed in elderly patients. It p... more Vasculitis with predominant renal involvement are increasingly observed in elderly patients. It predominantly involves patients with microscopic polyangiitis, Wegener's granulomatosis, renal limited vasculitis and, in a smaller proportion, Churg Strauss syndrome. The elderly patients present very few obvious symptoms or signs of vasculitis such as hemoptysis and pulmonary infiltrates, and they are often submitted to: 1/renal biopsy when renal failure is already advanced; 2/ have more severe renal disease than do young and middle-aged patients (81% of acute and/or rapidly progressive renal failure versus 62%, and 30% of oliguria versus 6%); and 3/ a worse prognosis compared with younger individuals (probability of survival at 3 months, 1 year and 5 years of 93%, 93% and 92% in patients under 65, versus 67%, 62% and 46% in the elderly). Disorders in bone mineral metabolism are common after kidney transplantation, covering, among oth... more Disorders in bone mineral metabolism are common after kidney transplantation, covering, among other pathologic conditions, secondary hyperparathyroidism. Paricalcitol, a selective vitamin D receptor activator, is indicated in the prevention and treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism. Recent evidence suggests that paricalcitol is also associated, by mechanisms not yet clarified, with improved patient survival. To clarify these unknown mechanisms, the aim of this study was to determine whether 3 months of treatment with paricalcitol modified the urinary peptidome of kidney transplant patients. This prospective study included 42 stable kidney transplant patients, randomized in 2 groups: a group treated with 1 μg/d paricalcitol (n=25) and a control group that did not receive paricalcitol (n=17). Urine samples of all patients were collected at baseline and after 3 months. The proteomic approach was based on magnetic bead technology coupled to MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Paricalcitol treatment produced significant changes in urinary peptidome of kidney transplant patients. Variations in urinary peptides were independent of the degree of proteinuria and of the decrease in parathyroid hormone levels. With this preliminary study, we obtained a profile of urinary peptides in which changes occurred due to treatment with paricalcitol. The identification of proteins to which these peptides belong may improve our knowledge about the possible pleiotropic effects of paricalcitol.

Here we analyse three mouse mutants, Atmin(gpg6/gpg6), Atmin(H210Q/H210Q) and Dynll1(GT/GT), revealing how ATMIN and its transcriptional target dynein light chain LC8-type 1 (DYNLL1) are required for normal lung morphogenesis and ciliogenesis. Expression screening of ciliogenic genes confirmed Dynll1 to be controlled by ATMIN and further revealed moderately altered expression of known intraflagellar transport (IFT) protein-encoding loci in Atmin mutant embryos. Significantly, Dynll1(GT/GT) embryonic cilia exhibited shortening and bulging, highly similar to the characterised retrograde IFT phenotype of Dync2h1. Depletion of ATMIN or DYNLL1 in cultured cells recapitulated the in vivo ciliogenesis phenotypes and expression of DYNLL1 or the related DYNLL2 rescued the effects of loss of ATMIN, demonstrating that ATMIN primarily promotes ciliogenesis by...
