This narrative refers to research and extension actions with the Mbyá-Guarani peoples in RS, following the practice of ceramics, or, more broadly, reflecting on the relationship of these groups with clay. Ceramics is not a practice that occurs today in the daily life of the groups we accompany, but it is a remarkable presence in the intersections of Mbyá Guarani cosmoecology throughout the life of these individuals, where clay, as an element that gives materiality to pipe, is the envelope of direct communication with the spirit guides of their walks in the World. Our research delimitation emanates from the conviviality with women who (still) maintain contact and work the clay, reinforced by knowledge through the archaeological literature of the interactions of these groups with ceramics. In this basement between a certain academic imagination and the daily practices experienced in living in communities and other spaces of Mbyá-guarani presence in RS comes a set of reflections that bring us the idea of biocultural memory (Victor Toledo), as the evocation of a way to be and to relate to the nature manifest in the act of shaping (and with) the clay of the groups we are living with, which remind us of the very possibility of seeing in the ceramic making the evocation of a certain ancestral gesture…

Thirteen backyards were visited and thirteen informers were interviewed through semi - structured questionnaires. Also, the guided tour technique was u sed, with questions about the plants that have importance to the families, present on the backyards. The reported taxa were classified in categories of use, being reported 152 taxa, distributed in 57 families. The most reported botanical family was Lamiace ae with 17 species, followed by Asteraceae with 13. It predominates the use of exotic species (73%), many of them traditionally used by European descendants. The use categories which were most reported were food and medicinal. The found results highlight t he importance the community gives to the cultivation and use of plant species in their residence‟s backyard, which incorporates the everyday life of the families
