We hypothesized that HC is associated with increased risk of non-relapse mortality (NRM) after alloSCT. We performed a retrospective matched-control study of the outcomes of 31 patients (table 1) with serological evidence of HC at the time of alloSCT performed between 1998 and 2007. Control patients (N=31) had negative serology for HC and were matched on age, diagnosis, disease stage, type of conditioning regimen and donor type (referred to as matched controls). To confirm the validity of the matching procedure we extended the comparison to the 1800 seronegative patients (all controls) transplanted for the same diagnoses during the same period of time in our institution. Multivariate analysis took into account all variables used in our matching algorithm. All HC patients had ALT levels less than 3 times the upper limit of normal and normal bilirubin levels at alloSCT. There were no sign...

Its play a vital role to facilitate the human life by operating all modern electrical equipment. The consumption of electricity increases rapidly due to its uses in the domestic and industrial sector. In the distribution of electricity, there are few emerging issues leads to huge losses. The illegal connection of electricity in remote areas increases rapidly. Such theft of electricity from distribution line leads to huge losses in revenue of electricity. Pakistan facing huge energy crisis due to a shortage of electricity generation. This research project modeled and the designed the hardware prototype of automated anti-theft electricity distribution system. The proposed system detects the illegal load and burns it by sending high voltage signal from capacitor bank. The legal load is made safe and uninterrupted during execution of illegal load.

Here we evaluated the results of a reduced intensity chemotherapy-only conditioning regimen (RIC) with fludarabine (F), melphalan (M) and thiotepa (T) for HaploSCT. METHODS: 24 patients (pts) with advanced hematologic malignancies (18 with AML/MDS, 3 with ALL, 2 with CML and 1 with T-cell lymphoma underwent HaploSCT from related donors at MDACC between 10/2001 and 04/2007. The median age was 36 years. At the time of transplantation 15/24 pts (63%) had relapsed or primary refractory disease and 37% were in remission. Pts received a median of 10.8x10e6 CD34 cells. The median number of CD3 cells infused was 1x10e4/kg. The number of allele mismatch was 3/10 in 4 pts, 4/10 in 10 pts, 5/10 in 9 pts and 6/10 in 1 pt. HL...

These patients may potentially benefit from high-dose therapy (HDT) and autotransplants. Method: We analyzed the outcome in 48 patient who received an autotransplant for MM while in renal failure at our institution between 8/1991 and 9/2006. Renal failure was defined as serum creatinine ≥ 2 mg/dl sustained for > 1 month. 9 patients (18%) were DD. Median age was 56 (29–72) years. 26 patients (54%) had at least a PR to induction therapy, 16 had primary refractory disease (33%) and 6 patients (12%) had relapsed disease. Median serum Cr was 2.9 mg/dl (2.0 – 12.5) and creatinine clearance (CrCl) at transplant was 33 ml/min (8.7 – 63). A CrCl of <20 ml/min was seen in 15 patients (31%). PBSC mobilization was performed with G-CSF alone in 37 patients (77%) and chemotherapy + G-CSF in the rest. Median CD34 cell dose was 4.47 x 106 /kg (1.4 – 9.7). Forty...

Due to a high risk of regimen-related toxicity, only patients with satisfactory organ-system function are considered eligible for this treatment. A low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of ≤ 45% is considered to be a major risk factor for post-transplant cardiac toxicity and non-relapse mortality (NRM). However, many patients with advanced hematologic malignancies and low LVEF can potentially benefit from this therapy. To address this issue, we studied the incidence of cardiac toxicity and NRM in 89 patients with low LVEF undergoing SCT. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis on 89 patients with impaired cardiac function, who underwent an autologous (33 patients) or allogeneic (56 patients) SCT between January 2000 and February 2006 at our institution. Pre-transplant evaluation included bidimensional echocar...

This treatment, however, is generally limited to patients younger than 65 due to concerns about excessive toxicity and treatment-related mortality (TRM) in older patients. Previous reports have shown that age alone should not exclude patients from high-dose therapy, as long as they fulfill other eligibility criteria. In this report we analyzed the safety and efficacy of high-dose chemotherapy (HDT) and autologous transplant in patients with MM who were ≥ 70 years at the time of autotransplant. Methods: Twenty-six patients (16 males, 10 females) with a median age of 72 (range 70–79) underwent HDT and an autograft between July 1999 and October 2005. The preparative regimen was melphalan 200 mg/m2 in 19 patients (73%), melphalan 180 mg/m2 in 6 and melphalan140 mg/m2 in 1 patient....

We conducted a randomized phase II trial to determine the safety and efficacy of a combination of ATO, melphalan, and ascorbic acid (AA) as a preparative regimen in patients undergoing autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation for multiple myeloma (MM). We also assessed the impact of ATO levels on melphalan pharmacokinetics, engraftment, and toxicity. Methods: Forty-eight patients with secretory myeloma (23 females, 25 males; median age, 54; range 35–70) were treated between 4/04 and 8/05. All patients received melphalan 100 mg/m2 IV on days -4 and -3 and AA 1000 mg/day IV on days -9 to -3. Patients were randomized to 3 arms: no ATO (arm 1), ATO 0.15 mg/kg IV on days -9 to -3 (arm 2), and ATO 0.25 mg/kg IV on days -9 to -3 (arm 3). Twelve patients had received a prior autograft, with a median 4.5 x 106/kg (range 2.3–10.9) CD34+ cells infused. Results: Patients...
