It has been a difficult path and for a long time considered an added but expensive value brought to the satellite payload. Today, it is a commercial and competitive reality. In the case of Thales Alenia Space (TAS), a new generation of OBP solutions are

Satellites are striving to become an important actor in the Next Generation Networks (NGN) by offering seamless integration with the terrestrial networks. Satellite systems can also provide the right complement in the convergence as one more access network that can cover vast regions and sparsely populates areas, or in areas where terrestrial systems have been destroyed by a recent disaster. DVB-RCS (Digital Video Broadcast - Return Channel Satellite) broadband satellite multimedia systems have a great potential, particularly in this direction, primarily due to the many possible solutions aimed at increasing the efficiency of bandwidth usage and SLA adaptations.

C2P not only solves mesh connectivity but allows QoS control enhancements, dynamic multicast group handling and even allows the introduction of a security key exchange architecture.

New concepts in the payloads architectures are required in order to support efficiently the new multimedia services. This paper will present the study of next generation payload architecture (in the context of Satsix project), taking into account the impact over different system scenarios.

As a first step, this work has defined a C2P solution for dynamic connectivity and QoS control in all types of DVB-RCS satellite networks.

The objective is the analysis of a hybrid system compatible with DVB-SH and SDR technologies, taking as a basis the work and studies performed in MOVISAT project.

This requires a big effort taking into account the specific features and constraints of satellite networks compared to terrestrial networks. SLA management is one of the essential aspects to be studied. This paper will present an analysis concerning SLA management for satellite-NGN convergence networks. This integration will enable new business models and services for broadband satellite industry.
